Best KPortal Reviews
Recently I needed to have my car serviced and mot'd. Mo did his utmost to support me in this, even coming to my address to pick my car up himself as I am currently unable to drive. The service and mot were completed on the day, all to my satisfaction. All actions undertaken by Mo and his mechanics are of the highest quality and I recommend P R Motors highly.
I have been taking my car to PR Motors for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. If I have a concern about e.g. brakes, Mo will tell me to bring the car in that day to make sure the car is safe to drive. He has also happily carried out small jobs/repairs and often won't charge for these. The staff are always friendly and polite, and take the time to explain what needs done to the car - they will also often show me what the problem has been. I trust them and have never felt overcharged for their work - quite the opposite, as Mo has previously found cheaper solutions for me rather than cost me 100's of pounds!
Five star service from the best mechanics I have ever come across in the many cities I have lived and worked in the U.K. Nothing is too much trouble. The service is quick and courteous and very reasonably priced. Gary Stewart Fairmilehead, Edinburgh
I have enlisted my daughters help to leave this review. I don’t leave a review of this kind lightly. In fact, I don’t usually leave reviews at all. However, after what I consider to be the worst experience I have had with a garage in nearly 50 years of driving, I enlisted some help to get me on here and I'm ready to share what I can In regard to what took place when I booked my car in for an MOT and service at P.R. Motor Engineers.
My car was booked in for a Monday morning. I was waiting outside when a chap appeared to open up. He said I’d get the car back later on that day as they were quiet…now I'm able to hazard a guess why. The service was carried out first. I was told that other items needing replaced were discovered during the service. By this point I was committed, the price kept on rising. After the service and all the work, it was claimed was required had been completed the MOT was undertaken. The car failed miserably (and expensively). My car has always been very well maintained and had covered just over 7k in the last year. There wasn’t a single advisory on the previous MOT.
It would be unwise for me to share everything I would like to as I’m still seeking guidance from Trading Standards. Nonetheless, I’d like to give some insight in regard to what took place.
One example, I was told the car need two new front tyres which were duly fitted. I checked the same tyres online when I got the car back. The difference to what I could have paid elsewhere, fully fitted, on that same day, was considerable, three figure considerable! (screenshot of tyres/price available elsewhere held from that date). Two further points regarding the tyres. I spoke to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and the gentlemen I spoke to pointed out, after the checking the MOT details online, the car only failed its MOT on one tyre. I was told the car required two tyres (hadn’t seen failure details at that time) and I was charged for two tyres. I was also told it would be illegal for me to drive away from the garage on the existing tyres which the chap from the DVSA said was nonsense. Furthermore, to add insult to injury, the garage fitted two all season tyres, to the front of a rear-wheel-drive car which makes them virtually useless. All the advice is against mixing all season tyres with other types of tyres (which had been fitted on the rear wheels, only weeks earlier by National Tyres).
All four of my indicator bulbs, although working perfectly, were deemed to be the “incorrect colour”. A convenient coincidence. They had to be replaced at a cost to me of £40.00. Of course, the garage couldn’t have known I replaced one of the rear bulbs only weeks earlier. I bought ten Lucas bulbs at a cost of £10.95, cheaper available but I always buy Lucas…although if the colour fades within weeks to the extent they need replaced perhaps I should reconsider.
As previously stated, my car went in on the Monday for an MOT and service. I was told I'd receive it back later the same day. I finally received it back on the Thursday along with a bill for £1,384.77.
