This is so frustrating as this should be a 5 Star Review.
Oakwood Fish Bar has excellent food, one of the best chippies in the area, and clearly good quality based on the volume of people that visit.
However, this should be a 5 Star Review, but their service is terrible. And I don't think it's the service itself that is slow, but rather their way of ordering food.
Everyone converges outside ( in the cold ) and waits to go in the Left Hand Side door to order food, then you stand there while they make the food one by one by one by one.
Guys its easy. People walk in and order at one end, Order gets placed and processed, then the move to the other end of the counter to pay and give their name, then they move aside and let the line keep moving. Once the food is ready the person behind the counter shouts the order name and the person waiting to the back AWAY from the counter and line picks up their food. Now you have half of the queue inside the shop instead of outside and you have more order being taken per minute.
Just a suggestion. Improve this aspect and you have a 5 star chippy
Food is decent but they need to review their processes. Either their methods are slow or they need to parallelise with more fryers as there are frequent bottle necks in service. Frequent long queues outside are not from volume of customers but slow service. Sometimes you're stood there in the shop for ages and the staff are just chatting and making more boxes up while one staff member is taking orders and making them? It makes no sense. Also they're often waiting for more chips to cook at peak times where the need should be anticipated. They should also communicate this as usually you're just stood with no idea whilst they talk amongst themselves. Never known a chippy like it.
Also last time I went a team member was wiping her nose on her sleeve and hand the whole time. Not exactly comforting in food service!
The food is absolutely spot on, best chippy around.
Only marked as a 3 due to a rude member of staff, spotted her rubbing her nose on her hand and sleeve. The other staff said she had a nose bleed. As we got to the counter I saw what looked like blood on a plate and just said politely to another member of staff. She was fine about it and took the plate into the back, she came out and said it was chilli sauce. Then the girl who was rubbing her nose came back out saying quite loudly 'who said I got blood on a plate, some woman said it.'.
I don't know the girls name but she's an embarrassment to the chippy! Even the girl who served us said she's so rude to customers.
Won't stop us going in, but she needs some basic hygiene training and needs some customer service training.
Feel sorry for the staff who have to work with her.
The fish and chips here are the tastiest. There kebabs are delicious too. We don't like to go anywhere else. Only gripe is service is slow.
Best fish and chips I've had for a long time. Curry sauce was also excellent. Very useful on Friday evenings
Beautiful food hot, lovely kebab and fish and chips. Just a big queue. Will use again.
Decent food. Awfully slow service. Usually a queue that takesbhalf hour and its not that long. Plenty of other chippies can serve customers faster so why can't you?
The best chip shop I have ever been to the service was absolutely amazing and the food was phenomenal
