Had a lovely lunch today, reasonably priced and freshly made. No one else eating on a Saturday lunch which is a shame for them as they should be busy with what they are offering. Cosy log fire in the bar. Credit where it’s due, the staff (not sure if the owners) were really welcoming and lovely to the children & puppy. We will be back when in the area. A lovely village pub with lots of potential
AVOID
Went in recently and had a Curry and G&T. The food was OK, not worth the price tag. The G&T was warm, when I asked for ice the owner rudely laughed in my face. Half an hour later the owner appeared in a dressing gown, rolled a cigarette, and proceeded to talk so loud, completely ruining the pub ambience. Her conversation was mocking how she had not paid her staff since December (now April). UNBELIEVABLE !
A real shame as I visited this pub a couple of years ago and had a lovely experience.
Didn't eat, so this is based on a drink.
Sorry, but the interior didn't live up to the "old" feel that the pub has on the outside. It's a beautiful building.
On entering, despite the staff being very hospitable, the bar had no character. The bar tables were all too uniform and felt like a cafe layout. We were expecting an old floor, maybe big beams and a fireplace?
I feel bad leaving this review but the atmosphere needs warming up. Too modern...
My husband had wanted to pop in for ages and we were passing, so took an impromptu look. Wouldn't return, sorry :(
Absolutely delicious food, and a really friendly service from both the dark-haired lady serving and the blonde lady who I believe was working from the kitchen (sorry I didn't catch their names). Lovely little pub, very clean and would definitely visit again
Really enjoyed our visit here. We were on an organised walk and they catered for 30+ people very well considering the size of the place. I had a chicken curry which was very good washed down with a pint of Brixton Craft Ale. Can highly recommend this pub.
Ok food ( although I don't understand why there is salad on a plate of curry ) and would have preferred fries to thick chips on other plate . The rating would have been higher if the waitress ( I think ) and manager ( I think ) had not stood so close to talk to us stinking of cigarette smoke after clearly going outside to have a cigarette. Will not return because of this
Brilliant night once again at The Oak & Black Dog. Cheeseboard Tuesday! £18.95 for a board brimming with quality cheeses for two, plus a glass of wine each. Tracey and team please take a bow.
Dog friendly.
Great place for a pint and a proper pub meal. Huge menu catering for every taste, basket meals for the less hungry.
Food is brilliant and served with a smile.
Fabby pub ????????
