Best KPortal Reviews
This is by far the best cafe I’ve been to. Every time we visit we are greeted with a kind, friendly service and new things to try. The vibe is just right, the food is incredible and the coffee is the best I tasted!
Yesterday we had a toastie with beetroot, feta and apricot - never had anything like that, and it was one of the best sandwiches I ever had. Not to mention the hazelnut and orange scone with the mango curd ????
Running out of compliments and can’t wait till the next time we visit!
Found this place on a circular walk from Barnard Castle to Eggleston Abbey and back. Decided to pop in for lunch. So glad we did, the food is superb. Very friendly and helpful service. Cakes are also to die for. Would recommend this cafe to anyone with a liking for food with a difference.
Impromptu stop here for lunch today. Amazing friendly, chilled out welcome and food that tastes fantastic. Will stop for longer next time and enjoy some of the cakes.

Visited Barnard Castle for the day with my family yesterday and was really pleased to come across Nobia and Sons. The staff were all super friendly and helpful; the atmosphere was very warm and inviting; and there was a range of food for vegans and vegetarians. We especially enjoyed the Bean Fritters which came with the AFI sauce, and the Black Sesame and Coconut cake. Highly recommend if you are looking for a spot for coffee and cake, and or lunch.
* Welcoming, friendly ,and brightly coloured inside, with an African theme
• Street access
• Music was at a perfect sound level, especially for those who may be hypersensitive to sounds
• Clean
• Food, beautifully homemade
• Child and dog friendly
Stumbled upon Nobia and sons whilst looking for somewhere different to eat in Barnard Castle. If it hadn't of been for the sign in the window, inviting you in to try the African sharing platter, I may have passed on by!
Popped me head in,to be greated with lovely smiles and inviting waves to come in.
Me and my partner were seated at a colourful clothed table for two, and given some menus to look through.
We chose the African platter for two, which you can buy for just one.
To wash my dinner down I chose a pineapple and beetroot juice, although this was lovely, I was expecting a purple coloured juice, like i make at home. But this was more pineapple. I found this was made using beetroot powder. Surprised, but still lovely.
The food arrived with a smile by Nobia, the chef, and was served hot. Chicken just fell off the bone, and melted in the mouth. The afi sauce was perfect. Plantain and walnut slices were divine. The rice and beans beautiful.
For afters we had grapefruit and poppy seed slice, which was beautifully made, nice and soft n crumbly, full of flavour.
This place is quite different from the norm in Barney, but with me growing up in Clapham, London, seeing a place like this is a brilliant change. The owner, family and staff are lovely, and from what I witnessed, have a great rapport with the locals, and all are known which has a nice community feel. Get yourself down, because once your there, you will come back.
The only thing I found I didn't like was the lighting, for the ambiance of the place I would personally use a warm glow bulb.
So if like me you are hypersensitive, to light, ask for a seat not so close. Hence the four stars
The staff here go above and beyond!!! Thank you for helping us with what to do in your lovely town!!! They gave us a full list of amazing walks and were just lovely. On top of that - the food was DEVINE and the atmosphere super chilled and friendly. We’ll be back!
Very friendly. Only had coffee and cake on this occasion, the cakes were delicious. Will definitely go back for lunch soon.
