Rated the best in swanage, feel a bit sorry for swanage if this is the best they have.
Lamb madras and lamb balti tasted exactly the same, bland sauce lamb over cooked. Chapatis were nice, so were the lamb samosas but the curries were pretty poor.
I'd recommend they use cardamon, bay leaf and a touch of kashmiri chilli paste for their madras to give it some sort of substance, as for the balti more caremelisation in the pan to bring out the flavour. All in all wasn't bad but not the best
Decided to edit this review after being in Swanage for a little over 2yrs now.
This is still 5 stars and one of my personal favourites.
It’s a small restaurant with limited seating and is mainly a takeout.
There are three Indian restaurants in Swanage of which Nihal does the best curry, but all three are decent and have their own strengths and weaknesses. Masala tends to do smaller portions, but is very central to the beach. Golden Bengal is generally just nice and is easier for people staying at the back of town.
Nihal is superior to the other two in flavour, you get a good selection on there menu. I personally love the chef specials, really tasty dishes and if you like it hotter, just ask and they are accommodating.
The one thing people need to be aware of is they prefer payment in cash, they have started taking cards though if you want a discount take cash in with you.
This is my personal go to take out when in Swanage, over all other cuisines on offer. Yes there are better curry houses out there, but not in Swanage.

Fantastic food, super friendly staff and great prices. Only lost one star on atmosphere as it is really a takeaway but you can eat in and byo booze, we actually liked the buzz of watching and hearing the guys cooking though! Can't recommend enough.
Great takeaway. We had the taster menus both were delicious. Only point is something leaked in the bag and it went everywhere. My jeans are stained with saffron as had the takeaway on my knee in the car on the way back as are the table mats that the pots went on.
Popped in, ordered and picked up 20 minutes later (quick drink in the Anchor). Friendly, efficient service. Tasty fresh tasting curries. Would definitely recommend.
Good curry. The medium curry was not overly spiced, so ask if that's important to you. Good portions reasonable prices and everyone enjoyed. Thank you
