Friendly and prompt service, decently priced for the quality of food, the cod was absolutely delicious, beautiful flaky fish and a crispy batter. The curry sauce was yummy too! And bonus points for being dog friendly! Thankyou for the treats you gave my pup, was a really nice touch.
Fish and chips is a classic meal when visiting Whitby and there is no shortage of options. There are even a lot of places that offer GF batter, plus several that you can take your dog in. Mister Chips ticks both of these boxes.
I can't say that I've tried every place in Whitby but I can highly recommend this one and say that it's where I will return when I'm next in Whitby.
The food is excellent and freshly cooked with generous portions. The service is friendly and accurate. The view is of the harbour and abbey. The atmosphere is classic fish and chip restaurant. And above all it's a normal place, it's not at all pretentious. It's a good restaurant that deserves to succeed.
Menu tip: the fish platter, with 4 different battered fish on a bed of chips is delicious and enough for two.
Visited here on a quiet weekday.
Superb service, food and friendly staff.
We normally go to the Mr Chips near the swing bridge, but this one has much more room.
The lady who took the order was very attentive, polite and friendly, couldn’t wish to be any better taken care of.
Visited Mr chips by the beach today while on holiday. We have the dog with us so this was a big reason we chose this chippy as its dog friendly and dogs can actually sit inside with you while you eat your meal. The staff on arrival were super friendly and helpful and our large haddock and chips was served quickly. I don't like skin on my haddock so when we enquired the lady said that's fine they can remove the skin for us! A chippy we came to last year in Whitby refused to remove the skin so we were very greatful that these would and they didn't make it feel like a problem.
The fish was delicious, fresh, steaming hot and big white flakey chunkys. Fabulous portions too. The batter so crisp and light. Plenty of chips to accompany it which tasted amazing too.
I'll definitely be going back here.Food and staff just brilliant ????
Lovely place and amazing food.
It was such rainy day Saturday
We were greeted at the door and taken to our seats.
Great menu
Smiling and happy to serve staff
We only popped in for a quick bite to eat
Great value
Well worth the visit
We had a massive plate of chips
Two slices of bread
One pot of tea= 3 cups
One pot of coffee= 3 cups.
All for £6.60
Brilliant
This was our visit to Whitby, and had heard that Mister Chips was well worth a visit if going. They have 2 outlets, the main one is on the Abbey side of the bridge, but we chose this one by the harbour. We decided to eat in the restaurant, rather than get a takeaway due to the weather. The tables were well spaced, and everything looked very clean & tidy. The waitress was very polite and friendly, and in all we only waited about 5-10 minutes for our food to arrive at the table. We'd ordered the large cod & chips, battered sausage & chips, and drinks. Considering the prices were a bit on the high side compared to some of the other places, I was a bit surprised to see it didn't include mushy peas, so had to order those separately. The chips were very nice, not greasy, fluffy inside, but not the best I've had. However, the Cod was absolutely delicious, in lovely golden crispy batter, not at all greasy, and the fish was soft, melt in the mouth, and was large as ordered. The battered sausage was equally well cooked, and quite tasty. Overall, I think the food & service was excellent, so would definitely eat here again. It's a good location too with views of the harbour and abbey, albeit partly obstructed by some funfair rides, and I felt just a bit expensive to be making mushy peas an extra.
Came here on the Saturday night of Goth weekend, we found this gem of a place after walking about Looking for food. so glad we did, the food was amazing, the staff were really lovely, we thanked the young chef as the food was spot on. Can’t wait to come back.
Nice fish and chips at a reasonable price. The mushy pees were a little bland and the curry sauce was watery. I got the large fish and chips and it was a huge portion. The fish was tastey and the chips were great. Staff were ....ok. overall I would come back, but probably for a take away.
