We were staying in a nearby hotel & stumbled across the maxwell arms after we had eaten at nearby luigis on new years eve. A traditional pub with a wood fire & extremely reasonable prices for drinks! We ended up spending hogmanay here & stayed until the early hours. What a great night, live music, snacks & nibbles, hats & glasses for new year plus lots of laughter & dancing. Lovely hospitality & everyone was just so so friendly & to top it off they had a piper who played in the streets when the clock struck midnight! we had an absolute ball! thank you to all the staff who had smiles on their faces all night & really made it a night to remember ???? we will be back!
Clean, comfortable value for money.|Yes there was some dodgy bits at edge of shower cabinet but didn't detract from a lovely hot shower.|The only miss was a hairdrier which I imagine would have been provided if I'd asked.
Basic and not as described. I'll start with the pros:|Clean linen and towels|Tea/coffee making facilities |Spacious room|Great location|Cons:|Filthy shower, mould in all corners. |Continental breakfast consists of a porridge pot, piece of fruit and a brioche bun in your room.|The one for all tv remote does not work.|Wooden windows, noisy and cold. Constantly covered in condensation. |Mattresses cheap and uncomfortable. |No housekeeping!! Stayed for 2 nights and the room wasn't serviced!|For £80 per night I expected more from this hotel. I guess they can charge a premium based on location. I have family in the town but will stay in Dumfries Town centre and commute from now on.
Went into hotel bar and was served by friendly staff, the bar was very quite but I was made welcome and they served a good pint, I am sure I will visit again.
How can trip advisor plus hotel Web site state they offer a breakfast when they don't. My husband and 2 grandchildren got up expecting a breakfast. and there was no staff around or any breakfast put out. We didn't know what to do with room keys. We had to return later with keys as didn't want leave in front foyer incase someone lifted keys. Plus we got discount on our rooms at my request as someone was given our room and the manager said we would need to wait until they found guests who were in it and then would need to change bedding. With having 2 young children we couldn't take chance waiting as they were already tired. The manager was very apologetic to what happened. But we had to except other room
Awesome place, people are so friendly. Rooms are what you expect for the price and I was very comfortable and happy. Drew and Julie would go out of their way to make me and my parents feel welcome and comfortable. Will hopefully def return one day. Thanks for an amazing stay everyone. Xx
Went into restaurant for a meal. So reasonably priced. I started with haggis and cheese fritters. They were delicious. My husband had the fried brie with caramelised onions - equally lovely. We then both had haddock chips and peas. Lovely tartare sauce!! Would visit again if in the area.
One of the best Sunday lunches we’ve ever had, slow cooked Brisket with 3 types of||Potatoes and 5 veg, Yorkshire pudding and gorgeous gravy. Very reasonably priced drinks and deserts and brilliant value main courses. Will definitely visit again the next time we are in Scotland.
