Updated. May 2024. Second visit in a couple of weeks since recent re-opening. Wonderful, friendly hospitality and the burger was superb. Huge portions. Giant onion rings. Totally lush. My partner enjoyed his steak too and again huge portions. Very enjoyable evening. So glad this pub is open again. Good luck in your venture.
2023. Been here a couple of times for dinner. Excellent service and food top quality pub grub. Cosy, country pub with woodburner. Will definitely return again and again.
If I hadn't prepaid, I'd have refused the room and gone elsewhere. ||It smelt overwhelmingly damp. It was a very depressing arrival. I had to ask for towels. To air the room I had the heat on all evening (in July!). The bed felt damp when I pulled back the duvet: it took a while to get rid of the smell, and rather longer to make the bed feel like I'd want to get into it. ||The room had very little privacy, its large window looking straight onto the children's play area, with no net or screen. It's nice to have the garden/tables outside the room, but the pub was hosting a large function, so I didn't really feel welcome in using them, and had to keep my curtains shut. I don't suppose this happens every day, but I'd paid for a room in good faith, not expecting it to be literally 2m away from a noisy party. The place's layout just doesn't seem to work when there's a function on and the rooms are in unrelated use.||I retreated to my room but it was noisy - kids were being kids in the play area. I had to have the window open to air the place, so the noise almost drowned out the TV. About the TV: it had no remote control. But then, it had no aerial cable either. I'm not sure what it was there for. Happily I carried a WiFi TV stick, so I was able to watch Netflix. ||I booked by following the link on the pub;s website, which took me to Expedia. Beguiled by the description there of "bed and breakfast" I booked only to learn on arrival that no breakfast was being served. I have no evidence that I paid for a booking with breakfast... but it's really disappointing. Incidentally, the farm shop 2 minutes away serves a good breakfast: the pub could have mentioned that. The pub is half an hour's walk from the centre of Cannington, so your options for other food and drink are limited. ||In the morning, "check-out time" was 10am, but no one from the pub was around at 9.30am. So I left the key in the room and departed, deflated by the whole experience, and very glad I only booked one night.||I've stayed in some basic accommodation before, but this is really the low end. I'd spent the week staying in the area in other pubs with rooms. By comparison, this was certainly overpriced, and poor all round. Would I come back? No, in case that wasn't already obvious. ||
Country pub in a lovely area. Food is excellent and a decent selection of real ales (if that's your thing - I like real ale, so all good for me). I had beer battered fish and chips, sat on the external terrace, on a warm evening in May...lovely, and certainly recommended
We had a family meal on Saturday for 9 of us. The food was great, really tasty, and the service was fantastic. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. We used to visit this pub over the years with my parents so it was lovely to come back and see it revived. It has been updated but still retains its old world charm. Will definitely be back if we are in the area.
Fantastic beers and great food with super friendly staff
We have been visiting this pub on Sundays roughly every six weeks for a year or so as they do a fantastic roast dinner. Today however we turned up to be informed that they are fully booked, no tables available, despite the place being practically empty. We'd have been happy to sit outside considering the glorious weather, but it seems they don't want our custom today. Shame really as we're a hundred miles from home visiting. Oh well, my opinion of the place has reduced quite dramatically. On to somew else.
We had a lovely lunchtime meal at the Malt Shovel. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and service and food quality excellent.
It’s off the beaten track down Blackmore Lane.
We will definitely be back thank you.
Great weekend away with my hubby. We spent 2 nights here. The room was big and clean. The location was beautiful and very peaceful and idyllic.||The staff are very friendly and a very big thank you to Kyle who was extremely helpful and accommodating where my meals was concerned as I can only eat small portions and he allowed me to order of the childrens meal. He was always cheerful and happy to chat.||The meals are lovely and the portion size is great.||I highly recommend this hotel if your looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. We will definitely book again. ||Many thanks to you all.||Angela Clark
