Started at the side of the Mallyan Spout Hotel. Walked down a steep dirt trail, then over some uneven ground/stones. Definitely wear appropriate footwear as very muddy and wet as expected on the side of the river.. Then retraced our steps and took the circular walk to Beck Hole and Goathland station.
Whilst in the area, my wife and I decided to take a walk out to the waterfall.
Had some difficulty initially finding the path, Google maps shows as going through a private property. However the footpath is to the side of the hotel. .
A steep path down to the valley, in pretty good condition, but certainly one you need the correct footwear for.
At the bottom you turn left and then you need to cross a rocks that can be slippery when wet.
But then you are rewarded with a wonderful view of the waterfall.
Absolutely stunning.
When walking back, you have two routes to choose from, back up the hill you came down, or straight on to beck hole.
This has many steep sections again and you will eventually come to the road that leads you back to Goathland, but this is quite a long route and again very steep in sections.
Overall, really glad we went there. Scenery is beautiful and it was so lovely and quiet.
Beautiful spot with an impressive waterfall. Some clambering over rocks required to get the waterfall itself.
It’s completely free to enter, but you’ll need to wear appropriate footwear. You’ll have to be careful and have a good balance.
An excellent waterfall off the beaten track. There is a path for the majority of the way, however it is tricky if you want to get right next to it and it can be unsafe. Well worth a visit.
