There lite bite option ( mini fish, half a portion of chips and mussy pees ) great value. Fish although small is very good, all for £4:20. Sometimes you get 25% of your next visit. Well done to the new owner.
A word of caution..... Sadly Mackays have been taken over and are under new management whilst the food is nice (lovely batter on the fish) the prices have substantially increased.
Our usual fish chips x2 plus sausage & chips and 2 curry sauces used to cost £14.50. On 1st May 2019 it was £20. I did query the price but the answer was that prices have slightly (???) increased but the food is better quality.
Sorry but we will go back to the one next to the brook in Syston and spend our money there.
Its a shame as Mackays did great food at reasonable prices. Not so the new owners.
2nd and last visit, just as bad as the first. Even asked the staff if we could have fresh chips. Staff confirmed a fresh batch was frying....
Reheated and burnt chips yet again.
Fish is good but even the peas were poor this time....
With 2 more chippys in Syston, I'd try them!!
Avoid wasting your money, this chain of chippys doesn't care what rubbish they're serving.
Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had and good value meal deals. Fish and chips for 2 with side for £11, more than enough for two hungry people. Smaller deals and kids meals are available two. Love the specials.
Great fish, chips and a side for £3.99. Polite staff, fresh produce and chips made from decent potatos that have a good distribution in size and texture. Will visit again for sure.
Just had Cod & Chips with mushy peas from Mackays for the first time.
Service was good, food was hot, well presented and packaged.
The fish was really tasty. Didn't have that 'fishy' taste, so it was definately fresh.
Proper skinless fillet of flakey cod, covered in crisp, light & tasty batter.
Chips were nice, the odd one or two weren't the best, but that's expected and acceptable.
Mushy peas were tasty, but just a little too much salt for my particular taste buds.
Really enjoyed the food, much better than most other local area vendors we have tried.
Definately recommended.
2 large fish that looked like 3 peices thrown together and chips reheated there was actually more batter that was left than fish we ate as was extremely greasy . My gf felt sick an hr after we had eaten I was ok tbf but it was definitely not as good as it used to be and very expensive
We have alway rated this Fish & Chip shop. Teatime today the chips were cold brown over cooked, Fish was tough , the batter was thick and hard, curry sauce was cold.
We do not intend to use this shop again , food thrown away , waste of money, very poor this evening .????
