Terrible customer service, never experienced anything like it before! Wouldn't go back in this shop again if you paid me.
I was trying to post a large box to the USA using UPS. I completed and paid for the delivery online, printed out the postage labels and packaged up the item. The email generated by UPS told me that this shop was my closest UPS Collection Point and to drive there to drop off my parcel for collection.
As soon as I pushed the door open holding my parcel the lady behind the counter started very dismissively saying over and over again 'you can't bring that in here, you can't leave it here, this is only a small shop, you can't bring that here'. I hadn't even said a word and this barrage continued over and over.
I tried to explain that UPS had directed me here as it was a UPS Collection Point but she refused to listen to me as I tried to just explain what I had been told. She went on and on and on talking over me, then calling someone on the phone and seemingly having a conversation with them about it, having still not actually engaged with me.
I got the impression that she has thrown this sort of tantrum before when people have turned up with items that she decides she doesn't want to accept, because of how she launched into this constant dismissive shouting at just the sight of the parcel and before I had even said a word.
Another customer in the shop even offered to take a box away with them to make space for my package by the till (thank you to that kind man for trying to help) but she refused to even acknowledge that suggestion.
I was so confused by this reaction the moment I walked into the shop that I thought maybe I had got the wrong place (after all why would you sign up and agree to offer a UPS Collection Service if you then refuse to accept the UPS parcels?) I tried to ask her if I had the right shop because all the address given to me by UPS said was 15 High Street, Marlborough, SN8 3NU and I thought maybe there was a chance I should be at a shop in Marlborough. She refused to confirm if I was in the right place, and again the helpful man said 'yes this is the right shop'.
Her avoidant ranting and talking over me went on for a few more minutes, and I realised that even though I was in the right place, with the right parcel and postage she was not going to accept it, despite the fact there was space for it, and the shop is a designated UPS Collection Point, so I left.
I'll never go back in this shop again because there's no need to treat people the way she did it was just rude and unhelpful. If you're in Great Bedwyn and need a local shop then go to the Village Shop & Post Office they are friendly and welcoming as you should be if you work in the service industry.
Don't worry there is a happy ending! I drove on to Marlborough and the UPS Collection Point in St Margaret's Mead where they accepted it with no issues. It can be done, some people just choose not to.
Handy local shop with great range, run by lovely couple. Also has a Costa Coffee machine.
Thank goodness Dee was open the day after Boxing Day.
