Took it back to my mechanic for a service and just had to buy another new air intake as they had cut a hole into it for a breather hose….so in a fixed unit after the filter it was sucking in air…. Not cool and surprisingly cowboy ish for such a well established firm
I've been to Vanstones now three times for improvements and diagnostics to my lovely Defender 90 TD5. They live and breathe Land Rovers, always helpful, friendly, from the lovely Rebecca on reception to all the workshop staff. I cannot recommend them highly enough, all faults have been picked up and sorted rapidly and reasonably, and this time I asked if I could have one of their tyre covers as I am proud to advertise them. In 40 years of motoring absolutely up there with the best specialists I have dealt with.
I consider that Vanstones Garage are in a league of their own as a family business. Their staff are all highly motivated and efficient in their particular field of operation whether it be workshop, body repair or reception. This is well complemented by a friendly, 'can do' and trustworthy ethos which permeates throughout the whole enterprise.
Although the business caters for a wide spectrum of motor mechanical and body maintenance/repairs etc they have a particular affection and expertise with regard to the Land Rover brand. During recent years both my Series 111 and Defender 90 vehicles have undergone extensive restoration (galvanised chassis, bulkhead replacement, respray etc) in addition to routine servicing and maintenance.
I would not contemplate taking my vehicles to anywhere else for such work and feel that Vanstones are a rare gem to be highly recommended to all others.

A very disappointing experience! I booked my cars in without issue over the phone and requested quotes for the work, which I duly received two days later. Both quotes seemed high against other quotes and other people’s experiences. When I declined the high one they took offence and abruptly cancelled both bookings by email even after my accepting one of the quotes. No phone call, no explanation, just not interested.
So they don’t need the work then and obviously don’t care about the perception it creates. They are also not willing or able to assist with worrisome issues in the short term, you have to book the car in and at the time I booked there was a two week lead time..
They implied their service made the price worthwhile...but the real question that needs to be asked is: Is a Vanstones service stamp in your service history worth the same as a Land Rover main dealer stamp, because as it turns out their prices are the same as the main dealer. That is a personal choice, mine is definitely the main dealer.
They haven’t responded to my response to their email cancelling the remaining booking!
So I have now successfully booked in my cars for the same work at the same price at the main dealer... including full valet, health check and a courtesy car and none of the attitude. The main dealer even looked at the worrisome issue next working day and both vehicles were booked in in just over a week...
Makes you think about what they think good service is...?
Had a blow out on the A30, pulled into town and was stuck on the side of the road - called Vanstones and they were with me literally within minutes! Recovered me to the garage and everything was fixed & ready to go within the hour. Great service, friendly & knowledgable staff with the best coffee machine in the world! Highly recommend!
I contacted Dave at Vanstones reference a remap to my Landrover Defender, having spoken over the phone an appointment was made to call in so they could check what remap was already installed, very efficient service.
During this visit Dave took a lot of time to show me around the premises (these guys know their stuff) he also asked what I wanted to do with the defender so he knew what to tell the remap company “Alive”
Current remap info downloaded and sent off to the company ‘Alive” to check what had been installed by the previous owner at another garage up country.
24 hrs later Dave rang me and explained what options there were after they had checked what was already installed and an appointment was made for me to have it installed.
2nd visit and new upgraded remap installed in my Defender by Dave and wow what a difference it has made.
Cost wise I was expected a sizeable bill, but between Dave and Alive tuning who they are an appointed dealer for my bill was only a third of what I expected!! They could have charged me a lot more and I would still have been happy.
Excellent customer service, very professional guys, brilliant staff and a very very happy customer here.
Thank you Dave, writing a review is the least I can do to praise this garage, good old fashioned service, from a family run garage who care about their customers and don’t take advantage price wise of customers.
Highly recommended. I recommended this garage and WILL be back again.
