Lovely old inn with character and characters all around. Really good value for money and a fantastic roast dinner experience on a Sunday. Pie and mash is exceptional and well worth going back for. Main menu is available alongside the Sunday menu so lots of choices.
Visited prior to New Year. Meal arrived without salad. Upon questioning we were told they had run out so just asked for this to be reflected on bill. My husband thought he heard the chef, who we believe was the owner, rather rudely say to the waitress just take them the chips to keep them quiet which when reading earlier reviews this has now convinced us that was aimed at us. If we has known at the time we would have just walked out. Nice bar staff shame the chef/owner let's the pub down.
This is a great local pub and is run by competent staff. A great couple who own it are seen serving behind the bar or serving up delicious home cooked food. Worth a visit if your in the area. They are dog friendly.

I live 67 miles from here...but second visit in a week. Also second review, the other on TripAdvisor (do look it up!)
And I didn't think it could get better but it did. Best ham egg and ships ever last time...best cod and chips ever this time. You know how batter is often crispy on the outside, but doughy or soft inside...not here...and the fish was not overcooked.
Absolutely superb. And the rhubarb and apricot frangipane was very light, moist and just the best balance of flavour and sweetness. Really great stuff. If you are a local (20 miles is well worth the drive!) and haven't been here go...now...before you end up.not being able.to book at table.
Once the word is out on their cooking you won't get a table, it's really that good!
Stopped by today with my nervous dog to try and get her used to new places. The Lady behind the bar was brilliant (I'm so sorry i didn't get your name). Everybody was so friendly and welcoming and really understanding. I will 100% be back, probably weekly, can't recommend enough! Thank you
