Extremely disappointed - my partner and I were told about a new Italian restaurant in Dursley so booked a table for 8 pm Saturday night - decor rustic and cosy - no debit card machine cash only - not a good sign-I may be wrong but let’s wait and see - customers were leaving there tables to go to the local cash point, good job it was working.
We ordered a house Rosie the bottle was at room temperature 20 Celsius not good asked water have you a cold bottle he replied no I’m sorry - so asked for a glass of ice and a glass of lemonade to add to it as it was
Undrinkable - I ordered a sirloin with pepper sauce - the pepper sauce tasted like bovril powder with lots of pepper - I have never seen or tasted pepper sauce like it - my garlic and cheese pizza was like card board
Couldn’t believe it was allowed to come out of the kitchen.
It’s a shame there’s no compassion to the food or customers - good luck if you try it.
Visiting from Canada, OK atmosphere (strange smell), sea bass was probably not sea bass (too oily for a white fish) but tasted nice, gorganzola risotto tasted good but had no pear or walnuts as advertised on the menu. Tiramisu was pretty average for an Italian restaurant. Would probably not go back, better choices in Dursley!
So... some of the food is good, the ambience is very laid-back, and the prices aren't outrageous. The service is friendly and reasonably efficient, the wine list is decent, the seats are comfortable and they will do child-sized portions for most things on the main menu.
That's the good.
The bad: no parking, piped music that bears little or no relationship to where you are, unheated low-rent toilets that feel like you're having a pee in a multi-storey car park, they don't seem to make allowances for child-sized drinks - which still come in tall, heavy glasses: a challenge for a four-year-old - they have ZERO idea how to make a ragu or a bechamel sauce (steer clear of the lasagne, bolognese and so on), and the prices may not be outrageous but they don't reflect the quality either. I have had one good meal (calzone) and one bad (lasagne) here.
The sides tend to be better than the main dishes. If you're a foodie, don't expect to be delighted, but if you're looking for a pleasant meal out you could do worse. It's not like Dursley has a lot of options!
The food is better at La Dolce Vita, but it's like eating in an airport departure lounge, so you pays your money and takes your chances ????????????
Really enjoyed our meal and service was excellent. The cocktail bar is a treat too! Will definitely be returning.
