We have stayed here previously and have always had a good experience. Well no more !! Since new management have taken over, they have made many cutbacks and it shows.||On arrival it all looked much the same albeit a bit tired.||Our room, which was a 'family king' it was small, cold with shabby carpet and the bed was not a 'king'. The bedding was thin and half empty not reaching all 4 corners of the duvet cover. There were not extra covers in the wardrobe either. The towels were old, flat and rather grey.||Nothing seemed to have been touched in the 3.5 years since we last stayed. ||The kettle was in the wardrobe & plugged in ..... where clothes were meant to hang - bizarre !||Our included breakfast was no longer a cooked offering but a very scaled down continental version. It was the worse options I had ever had. Make your own tea and coffee, cook your own toast, choice of 3 jams, longlife pastries, 2/3 cereals, quick porridge, yoghurt or a banana. Not appetising to say the least. The breakfast room was also very cold. The only member of staff working was working in her coat and scarf.||We were here for 2 nights and after the 1st night the rooms were not made up. Surely this is part and parcel of staying in a hotel.||On our return after the 1st day, the bar was closed. We were advised the following day it opens 6-9 in the evening !! Why bother I ask myself.||This is not a hotel, more like over night digs, but charged for at hotel rates. ||Overall a very bad experience and ruined my weekend away.
Comfy beds, staff are so helpful and lovely. Rooms were so clean and bathrooms were spacious. Only downside was that there|Was no fresh water to drink in rooms but easily rectified and lighting wasn’t great for doing makeup as there is a golden glow in|The lights but again it’s not a big issue. Will definitely book again.
A great little value for money place to stay. We had some concern booking this hotel because of the recent poor reviews, but decided we would take a risk as we only needed somewhere to lay our heads for the one night. We were pleased we did. Our room was clean and comfortable, small but big enough for the two of us, with a modern en suite shower room. The bed was comfy and the room was warm. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided in the room, but we didn’t use them as the breakfast provided in the on site bar and restaurant was more than enough for us. I can see why people have moaned about the breakfast if they were expecting a full English as per Booking.com, because it is only cereals, toast, and some long life pain au chocolates. But there was plenty of food available so we were quite content. I guess we may have been disappointed if we hadn’t had our expectations managed by previous reviews. Then again, for the price we paid, we found our stay excellent value.
Good location for the Annual Retford Charte day taking place at Kings park .. being situated between the park & the market Square - however management seem to have been caught napping by this well populated annual event/ cash cow by not being open on this sunny day meaning literally hundreds of parched wallets & purses & their children, wanting pop & crisps etc, walking straight past it's closed doors.
Can't speak to food, service or rooms . It was closed.
The room was good, comfy bed, warm and a Smart TV. Disappointed as thought this was advertised as a hotel the bar and evening restaurant were not open. Breakfast was basic continental. Location was very good near a lovely park and very central to the town centre and theatre.
Our apartment was spacious, with quality furniture and two large televisions, a large kitchen and modern bathroom
The park is across the road and the shops and pubs two minutes walk away.
The price we paid was a bargain for what we got.
Awful stay - room was freezing, grubby carpets, restaurant closed and room smelt! Absolute no go! Had to put my coat over the bed covers to stay warm. Disappointing the restaurant was closed as no where else nearby to eat. Would never stay here again.
Really disappointing stay unfortunately. Room had a strange smell when you walked in, carpet didn't look like it had been hoovered and was really stained. Toilet seat was broken, we were provided with 2 loo rolls neither of which were full, soap dispenser was nearly empty. We had to ask for another towel as we were only provided with 1.|Bar was closed on a Saturday night. Breakfast was continental which would have been fine and we were expecting but was cheap Aldi yoghurts, brown Bananas, sliced bread etc really not well thought out or worth the value at all. Only saving grace were the staff who were friendly. Glad we were only there 1 night.
