Really honest and helpful people work here...
I took my car here for a re-test after another centre pulled my pants down and tried to charge me an obscene amount of money to pass my car. Hunningley MOT centre tested my car and gave me a very fair price compared to the other and I will be taking it in here to get fixed and will be back again for my next MOT for sure ????????
It came up on my dash that the brake pads needed changing (at this point, they weren't squeaking).
Took it to Hunningley and they were apparently changed but after about 30 miles it started squeaking, so took it back in. I was told they'd just needed cleaning down and resetting, but within another 30 miles or so they were squeaking again and worse than before.
I took it back in for the third time and asked for them to be replaced completely as this set was clearly faulty, I was told they had been replaced when I picked the car up but again within 30 miles squeaking. I called and was told as long as the warning wasn't coming up on my dash, it would be fine (just loud and annoying) and that sometimes brake pads can do this - I've had pads changed on other cars and never experienced that.
A fortnight later, the car is vibrating/making a huge grinding noise every few brakes. I have gone elsewhere for further advice - the pads they have replaced with are so cheap, they have metal in them which has been grinding against the disc until it's eventually warped and scratched it, meaning the pads AND discs now need changing. The vibrating/grinding noise is the discs whenever the brake hits the warped point on them. They also hand screwed the bolts back on which had gotten so loose, they twisted off by hand when the new mechanic got to it.
I called Hunningley and was given some rubbish about how this can happen naturally, that it's the type of car I have (an Audi Q2, nothing unusual) and that it will have been like that before I first brought it in. I asked why it wasn't picked up on when the pads were changed, and was told it can be impossible to see etc.
I paid £160 for just the brake pads at Hunningley, and £175 elsewhere for pads AND discs.
I will never use them again, and do not recommend them. I've not only wasted £160 but numerous trips to the garage (as well as my dad who has had to pick me up and drop me off every time). Terrible service, never fixed from the start and zero interest in rectifying the fault.
UPDATE FOLLOWING OWNER'S REPLY:
The pads were first replaced July 2023, I reported as squeaking to one of the staff in September and text them saying "surely they shouldn't be squeaking this quickly" to which they agreed and said they shouldn't need new pads for at least 2000 miles. I was told to keep an eye on it as new pads can still squeak and to call in if it carried on.
I called in again in November as it continued, and was told to bring it by on 20.11.2023, I did and they didn't have it booked in so had to come back the week after (another wasted trip). Took it in 28.11.2023 and 4 hours later it was squeaking again, reported straight away and was told again to ride it out to see if it fixed itself.
I called again/returned in January as the sound was driving me mad, I specifically asked for them to be replaced instead of cleaned as the first set were clearly faulty. I picked it up and was told they had been replaced, and within a few hours it was squeaking again. I contacted them again to be told it's just how they are, and that unless the display shows low pad wear then it's fine.
Flash forward to yesterday (27.02.2024) and the discs have now gone, which is when I called and was given some garbage response. I wouldn't need new discs if they'd done the pads properly the first time, that's exactly what the pads are for - to protect the discs.
I told Hunningley not to bother booking in the pads and discs because I have zero intentions of paying them twice for something they should have done right the first time (and as if I'm going to ever use them again after this shambolic run around). They've also said below they cleaned them twice free of charge - I should think so too, they've fitted dodgy pads which have now wrecked my discs and put me another £175 + VAT out of pocket.
They didn't give me a receipt for the July job and it's all cash only (of course) otherwise would be recalling the payment or going to small claims.
I think this reply, and the other rude ones on the 1 star reviews, say it all.
