We had a fabulous Burns night celebration at the Hope and Anchor. Great food, great venue and the staff were friendly and very helpful.
This hotel is very convenient to the Fishguard ferry terminal. It's clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly. Breakfast was lovely too. If you are a light sleeper I'd recommend ear plugs, the music in the bar is quite loud and after it finished I could hear everything in the room next door, toilet flushing, water running and then the loudest snoring ever. My husband had earplugs in and he slept through it all. The TV in the room was quite old and there are a lot of very strong smelling diffusers throughout including in the bedroom which I found a bit over powering but I would stay here again and would recommend it.
Can't see any recent reviews for this restaurant which also appears to be a hotel. We eat there prior to taking the ferry. The dining area was bright airy and decorated in a contemporary style. Service was prompt and efficient. The food was well prepared, fresh and tasty. Reasonably priced.
The car park was very close, but it was a little awkward to find the particular reception to check in. All we did is pop into the bar and a member of staff helped us out. Our room was a spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom and an incredible view of the sea. That being said, underneath our window was a patio from the cocktail bar, which got noisy but was no real issue when we closed the window. The food at the restaurant (conveniently downstairs) was delicious and the drinks were great too. Overall, our stay was great.
Parked in a car park and paid for parking (only £1.50 for 24 hours) but says free parking...doors were shut...number provided rang, twice - no answer, got an answer poor information given, quite blunt response! Bar staff not interested in guests, asked what we wanted from the bar... informed we were staying...paid £80 ... then told us to sign to say she “explained” what she needed to... which was to report any damage and there is a charge for misplaced room keys. We were taken to our room (1) double bedroom...lack of photographs on website due to poor standard of room! Bathroom floor is all chipped, mirror is peeling away, shower head is broke...paint on walls peeling / damp...sockets coming away from wall, over crowding of tv x2 and fan, wires everywhere, blocking mirror? ...chair provided looked as through from bar below!...toilet hardly flushed (on arrival toilet paper present in toilet) water in kettle from previous guests as well as their receipt from their stay? Dust everywhere. Would not recommend this place if wanting a quiet night as music from bar is very loud and everything can be heard. Leaving the place, all locked up? Left through back entrance and gave room key to kitchen staff, no questions asked about our stay! When contacted the number provided again to inform of our complaints we were hung up on! Very poor overall! Would not ever return as certainly not worth £80!
Stepping over the builders rubble at the entrance, clearly the renovation was still in progress. We couldn't find reception, but eventually discovered that the bar doubles as reception. We were told that we had the best room in the house, which was fine once we finished cleaning the room. Shame about the bathroom without a window and the ultra-small tv screen. Having been assured by email that the restaurant would be operational when we arrived, frankly, weren't greatly surprised to find it wasn't. Needed a drink, so went to the pub next door as we didn't feel comfortable with the local cliental in the bar as we didn't sport chains and tatts, and we'd left the dogs at home. Greatly surprised next morning to find mine host amiable and professional and the breakfast excellent. Hopefully by now the renovation is complete and things have improved.
Comfortable bed is the most important, clean and decent bathroom with strong shower the next. Friendly staff, decent service and quality options for breakfast. This place had all of the above and with continued redevelopment will only improve. Saying all that, the area looked a bit sketchy on first arrival, but once welcomed by the bar staff and shown a room it was fine. Not great views, but that car park is useful. The Rose and Crown next door was a classy but pricey option for an evening meal. I hope the issue with hot water was a one off.
Nice place to stay, rooms are clean staff are very friendly and it's perfect over night stay for a ferry crossing as it's right next to the harbour. Great breakfast and soft and comfortable beds. Good location too! Would stay again and recommend!
- Wish we'd avoided the chip shop on the corner and ate at the Anchor and Inn instead as the food smelt lush.
