HIT THE ROAD IS THE BEEEST FAST FOOD IN TOWN!????
I HAVE BEEN VEGAN ????FOR 12 YEARS NOW AND HAD NEVER FOUND A PLACE THAT IS NOT VEGAN IN ESSENCE THAT CAN CATER SO MANY OPTIONS FOR US.
THEY DON'T LIE TO YOU AS MANY OTHER PLACES AROUND, SAYING THEY HAVE VEGAN FOOD TO THEN, DO THE SAME MEAL BUT WITHOUT CHEESE OR ANY OF THE OTHER INGREDIENTS THAT ARE NOT VEGAN, SO YOU END UP WITH A TASTELESS THING. NO, THEY GO OUT OF THE WAY: THEY DO USE VEGAN CHEESE, VEGAN BACON,VEGAN MAYO, VEGAN MILKSHAKES...
IF YOU ARE VEGAN YOU ARE GONNA LOVE IT AND IF YOU'RE NOT, I'M SURE YOU WILL, TOO.
THANKS GUYS!!!
Ordered burritos, loaded fries and nachos from the counter after reading the online menu. Very disappointed to find that prices are 30% higher than advertised online, so already spending more than intended. But I carried on as the reviews seemed positive.
I was served by polite staff who were not fully aware of their own menu and had to wait 30 minutes for the food. Combined with the high prices and silly shop layout, I left doubting my choices.
Nachos might have been decent before the salsa drowned the life out of them. Not at all pleasant by the time I got them home. A separate salsa pot may have made them worth the effort, but even then, not much going on for the high price.
Loaded fries were little better, being undercooked and under-loaded. Low quality cheese, scant toppings and no sauce to be found. Totally different from the online description.
Neither of us loved our bland burritos. The meat rice and beans seamed unseasoned, and the sources were basic and slight. They did taste better than the sides at least, and quite filling.
All in, I felt quite unsatisfied, but at least I'm not hungry.
The food is amazing. The portions are very generous for the price. The staff is super friendly. I had the 4some fries. Absolutely delicious ????.
Ate from here before about a year ago and honestly I think they had a bad day because it wasn't the best experience, but I don't post poor reviews of local businesses after just one bad experience because sometimes it's a one-off. Tried them again recently to give another chance and was a completely different experience - the food was all really good this time. The meat in the burritos was much more flavoursome and... well.. 'meaty' this time and the other ingredients were tasty and fresh too. The loaded fries were also really good, especially the ones with the jerk seasoning on! Only slight criticism was one of the loaded fries was a little short of the cheese sauce - I like to hear the screams of my fries as they drown in boiling hot queso, but this was more of a happy pool party - still good enough though. Totally redeemed themselves and I'll be going back again for my jerk fries, just perhaps with an extra pot of cheese sauce on the side! I really wanted this place to be good and it is!
Ordered from here as of 24/1/24
Ordered cheesy fries a shake and a chicken burrito. Fries tasted of nothing other than pure salt. Like chewing salt rock. The burrito tasted like the rice had been reheated a week after it was made, either that or they just overcooked the arse out of it. The chicken inside was like patê. A chalky paste like substance that tastes overwhelmingly of BBQ and nothing else. My last order was not like this, or maybe it was and I just hadn't noticed. Anyway it's 24hours later and I'm pretty sure it's given me food poisoning. Feel disgusting and been in and out of the restroom on the hour every hour. Do not recommend. They need to improve their standards of flavour and cookery.... Was looking for authentic cuisine and this is just not it.
The hot sauce in my burrito was only in one end so what started out nice quickly went downhill after a few bites. After that it just tasted overwhelmingly of onion. I won’t bother ordering again. The fries and shake were really good but the burrito was very disappointing.
Hit The Road (Portsmouth Store)
This is the only review that matters.
As someone who has tried the length and width of tex mex and Mexican food across the world - I sometimes try places more locally to me.
I want to preface this review by saying that this is an independent run business and the staff are all exceptionally friendly.
CONS:
The burritos are heated from frozen and that destroys any flavour / texture within them. They are large / very filling, but it's fodder. You're not buying for flavour here in my opinion. Unless the flavour is subtle sweet / bbq (which I was not expecting in my chicken burrito). The texture was like porridge. Couldn't taste the pico, couldn't taste the guac really. All I got was sweet reheated chicken.
Same goes for the beef chimichanga. Flavour was better than the chicken for sure, but there's this weird underlying sweet taste. Devoid of all texture / just a bit overwhelming.
PROS:
The fries are very good, but those are a stand-alone thing.
The blue cheese dip is the cheesiest blue cheese dip you'll ever have.
They included lollipops.
Constructive feedback would be to not reheat from frozen / prepare fresh to avoid the biggest flaw in the food.
Amazing Mexican food. Had chicken quesadillas and halloumi burrito both of which were great. Particularly loved the gauc! Also, milkshakes are a must! Would highly recommend ????
