High Wards

Stunning! We have just returned from a wonderful 4 night break with family. The house is amazing - has everything that we could have wished for. The beds were so comfy with lovely linen. The kitchen was stocked with everything. There was room for us all to spread out. The pool was also a nice addition. The grounds are just beautiful. We had some fabulous walks. Ideal location, nice and secluded but an easy drive to different places. We will definitely be back. Thank you Emily for such a memorable break!

Celebrated my daughter in laws hen weekend at High Wards recently. We had a fantastic time. The house and grounds are in a beautiful setting and are maintained to a very high standard. Emily the manager has catered for all and the house is so well equipped. The pool was a huge success with everyone. The beds were so comfortable and everything was immaculately clean. We were lucky to have great weather and even enjoyed some alfresco time in the beautiful grounds. We filled the house to full capacity and still managed to find our own space. Perfect!

We spent the weekend here in February to celebrate a 40th birthday. Set in a secluded location with beautiful views.

The house is very spacious and if you wanted a quiet 5 minutes to yourself there’s plenty of space to do this. It is very well equipped with crockery & facilities for the large number of guests. The rooms were all beautifully decorated and the showers were great. There is a boot room which was well stocked with wellies & cycle helmets which was a great addition. The toy/tv room was also well equipped and the kids never got bored, they even enjoyed a good old game of hide & seek with the adults! The outdoor space was vast and the views were amazing.

Emily was very welcoming & could not have been a better host. She cooked for us on 2 occasions and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and she was on hand to answer any questions.

I would recommend this house for a large group event and would return if the occasion arises.

Just back from a week at High Wards with the family and to say it was absolutely amazing doesn't begin to do it justice. There were 12 of us, yet there was plenty of space for personal time as well as family time. The swimming pool was a hit, as was the pool table. The view from the lounge off the games room was stunning, especially on the last morning when we woke to a scattering of snow.

Our bed was huge and extremely comfortable. I often struggle to sleep away from home but not here.

Emily, the owner, was nothing but helpful. Being a fitness freak she gave me detailed directions for various runs around the local area where I was able to take in the most beautiful scenery whilst burning off the excess holiday calories! She also came and cleaned the bbq so that we could have the traditional holiday bbqs.

I can't speak highly enough of this wonderful house. It's great with everything to offer, plus more, and in the most beautiful location. Special memories made which will be treasured.

What a wonderful weekend to celebrate a hen party. High Wards feels very secluded as we only saw Emily the owner and Charlie the gorgeous friendly lab the entire weekend, but it’s so close to Glasgow. Emily is very welcoming plus so helpful with all of our questions before check-in. Wow to the house as it blew all of our expectations away. It’s large, extremely clean, well maintained and has everything you can think you might possibly need. We had an amazing time in the pool with a Pool Party and inflatables. Highly recommend!

Sadly this place was less than pleasing. My family and I booked this place at some expense hoping to have the holiday of lifetime. Upon arriving the property wasn’t even ready. The surrounding grounds were unkept and hadn’t been maintained in a long time. Weeds and general conditions very bad. The pool isn’t heated, so don’t be fooled by that. An outside table was broken which left lots of rough/sharpe edges. Children be careful. The outdoor activities are poorly maintained. A room light fell from the ceiling and landed on a guest, leaving wires exposed. The owners tried to blame us for this. A family with a dog always seem to come walking through the grounds, with the dog off the lead.

There is more to write about but it could take a while. The plus sides are….the location is perfect. A peaceful place and the house itself has some history. The service from the owners after trying to rectify these issue was below poor. I appreciate there has been good reviews but please think twice if you’re expecting luxury.

We had a lovely stay at High Wards and will be looking forward to coming back in the future!

The house is absolutely beautiful and very clean. The furniture, bedding and appliances are all to a high standard. We loved the pool table, swimming pool and toys for the children and other little touches.

The surrounding views are stunning and we loved having a daily walk around the grounds.

We opted to have catering provided for breakfast and dinner and we couldn’t fault the food which was all cooked by the owner. It was all delicious and a highlight of our trip!

I’m surprised to see another recent review which said they were not made to feel welcome….it was quite the opposite for us. The owners were friendly, chatty and helpful without being overbearing. They were in the house twice a day to do the food and were very discreet. The pool was locked in the evening via a back door and the owner certainly did not walk through the house and their dog was not allowed inside. Our daughters loved the friendly dog though so went outside to see him every evening anyway!

We could see that the owners try very hard to provide their guests with a lovely, relaxing experience - thank you for a great stay.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at High Wards and all I can say is WOW! The house is stunning, we had a visit in September to view the house before our stay and we’re completely blown away with how amazing it was! We were a party of 24 people (house can sleep 22 but was no problem for Emily to add 2 extra beds for us). Our visit was for a Hen Weekend and all the girls had a fabulous time! The house itself was spotlessly clean massive credit to the cleaners! The beds were super comfy and the quality of the beds/mattresses & bedding were great, bedding was super soft and quilts were so cosy! The pool was great for a pool party, they had plastic cups next to the door to decant drinks from glasses. There was plenty of seating at the table for us all, Kitchen was great, 6 ovens & 3 dishwashers made the cooking and cleaning up so much quicker! Was great to have the ice machine as well saves taking bags of it to put in the freezer. Plenty of fridge space for all the food an drink we took, two massive fridges and then also a big wine fridge. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a large family weekend away or for a hen weekend as it was ideal! Many thanks to Emily for a fab weekend!
