I just got home with my a large cod and large portion of chips from Hi-Tide, expecting a satisfying helping to enjoy with my kids. However, upon arriving home and opening the package, I was extremely disappointed. The portion size was minuscule, barely filling the container. To my surprise, the excessive amount of wrapping paper made the package seem much larger than it actually was.
Disgruntled, I decided to visit another chip shop nearby. Even their small portion was significantly bigger than the "large" one from Hi-Tide, and the chips themselves were noticeably fresher.
To add to the negative experience, the service at Hi-Tide was sluggish. I waited at the counter for at least 3 minutes before being acknowledged by the staff, who seemed inattentive despite me being the only customer waiting to be served.
Overall, my experience at Hi-Tide was a low tide of disappointment. I won't be returning anytime soon.
So many reviews pointing to the same issue...portion sizes...and they're correct. More specifically, the chips. Come on guys, you're getting downvoted and risking your business profile for being tight on fried potatoes. Also, what happened to just scooping chips onto the paper and not a tray (clearly for portion control). Unfortunately, I never went back after taking two hits on small portions.
Hands down the best fish and chips in the area.
Freshest ingredients, crispy batter , fresh tasting fish and the chips are delicious.
I have tried numerous fish and chips shops in the area and they have been decent however this place is that level above. Nothing is stodgy it's all fresh and flavoursome.
The staff are friendly and always up for a chat, they keep you company as they cook up the fresh fish.

Unique in that it's the best quality and does not taste cheap.
Popped in here for a portion of chips - Cant remember how much I paid but i asked for a small rather than large which was basically one flat tray of chips. Originally when they handed over the chips I thought that they had misheard and had wrapped a saveloy for me by mistake. The chips themselves were great - no complaints there but the portion size for the money was ridiculous. Maybe I should have ordered a large portion instead but the portion sizing was not great for the money. Will not be returning.
Fish and chips were really nice I must admit and the service was good.
My only concern was the portion for a large chips which is rather on the medium size but I ordered another portion which made the meal a bit more expensive. In all fairness some people might prefer a smaller "large" portion of chips if they dont want to over eat.
I would go back there again for sure but not anytime soon as I am really full right now.

Tried the Haddock, Cod and Large Chips, quality of food freshly prepared and tasted good, however like other reviews have stated portion sizes are on the smaller side in comparison with other Fish and Chips Takeaways in and around the area. Service could be a little more friendly !
Just had the nicest cod chips and mushy peas. The chips were crispy and perfect and the fish cooked to order beautifully. Thank you for great food and service.
