Quite a gem of a place! Fiona is one amazing individual who greeted us warmly and treated us as a genuine friend would. Nothing about our stay felt impersonal, in fact the total opposite. We felt so comfortable and relaxed and our room was fit for a King or Queen! Simply beautiful!
Fiona's culinary skills could match any Michelin starred chef, all served with a genuine smile and nothing was too much trouble.
The whole house is spotlessly clean with big fluffy towels provided together with excellent toiletries.
I would 100% recommend. Thank you Fiona for a wonderful stay. It was certainly our pleasure to meet you and hopefully we will get the chance to revisit you soon
We booked the foodie weekend, which includes a 3 course Michelin star meal on the Saturday night (not drinks, which was communicated before arrival) and travel to and from the restaurant. The property is beautiful and decorated in such a complimentary way to the age of the building. It feels like visiting my nans house! So homely and cosy, roaring fire in the sitting room and a lovely host welcoming us into her home. Fiona was clearly in pain and using a crutch but this didn't stop her... every detail was tended to with such care. The room was cosy and clean, we were shown all the information and asked when we would like breakfast, what we would like for breakfast and reminded that if we want wine with dinner at Heron House to pop to the shop before it closed, as the guesthouse isnt licenced. Fiona served us a beautiful homemade pasta dish and chocolate fondant for dessert. I believe there was an issue with taxis in the Saturday, to get us to and from the restaurant - again, this didn't stop Fiona. This lady took her car to be valeted and drove us there and back herself! We were blown away by the service we received, we hope to come back again soon.
This was our 3rd short break at the Heron House. Again cannot fault Fiona for her hosting, and cooking. We stayed in the Super King room overlooking the garden. There is a large ensuite with a power shower. The toiletries , bedding, towels (large!), etc.. are some ot the best we have ever experienced in a B&B. We had a two course "supper" evening meal beautifully cooked by Fiona plus coffee and lindt chocolates in the living room with a roaring log fire. So relaxing. We were going to have a Thai meal on the second evening but the restaurant had to close due to illness so we had fish and chips from the local chippy which Fiona allowed us to eat at the Heron House. As a non licensed property, you can take you own alcohol to accompany your evening meals. The breakfasts are fantastic. You can have cooked break, kippers, scrambled eggs with salmon. There are some excellent restaurants within walking distance of the B&B. The Swan is one where we have eaten at before. Bampton is ideally located as a base to visit Exmoor with lovely walks nearby. Heron House is a luxury B&B. Cannot praise Fiona high enough. If you want a relaxing break, to wind down and experience high quality accommodation, food etc.. Heron House is the place for you.
We had the most perfect three nights at Heron House. The rooms were lovely, cosy and comfortable and breakfast plentiful and delicious. Fiona, the owner, is absolutely delightful and welcomed us so warmly we felt. Immediately at home.
Bampton is a very pretty village with a real sense of community: so friendly and cheerful! The location is perfect for exploring that very beautiful part of Devon.
Highly recommend it.
PS. Book restaurants ahead of arrival if you can.
Heron House proved to be a very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Fiona was very hospitable and cooked us an excellent breakfast each day with freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade jams, fresh baked bread and home preserved fresh fruits with delicious yogurt mixed with honey. We had the use of her very comfortable and beautifully decorated sitting room and our private bathroom was spacious, she also provided bathrobes. We highly recommend Heron House as a place to stay when exploring the area. Richard and Maggie
I chose this guest house, out of the buy a gift locations, that were listed in the voucher category that I had received as a present.||Heron house, is not your typical guest house, but feels more like staying in someone’s quaint family home. Adorned with ornaments, paintings and personal photographs gave you a sense of going back in time. The house dates back to the Georgian period, and as one walks in to the hallway, you are met with a lovely mosaic flooring of yesteryear. ||Fiona made us very welcome and supper on the first night, shared with our fellow guests was both sumptuous and gave us an ideal opportunity, to get know each other over the meal. Tea and coffee, was served in bone china cups, in the drawing room, again a lovely touch.||We had the four poster bed, which although small by todays bed sizes was more than adequate, for our 2 night stay. It was comfortable, and the room was quiet, even though it overlooks the main high street. The adjoining en-suite, had Jack and Jill sinks and the bathroom itself was large and airy.||Breakfast is ordered the night before, along with a suitable time of choice, however all food is cooked fresh and was very well presented. ||All in all, a very pleasant guest house to stay in and provided us an ideal bolt hole to explore the surrounding areas of natural beauty.
Wonderful welcome and hospitality, rooms decorated with real charm, totally relaxing and a great base to explore this lovely part of Devon. Dinner was of masterchef standard and breakfast simply lovely and made of the finest of ingredients. We enjoyed having after dinner coffee and tea in the very cosy sitting room and having tea in Fiona's beautiful garden with the attention of her adorable spaniels. Our short break surpassed our expectations.
I’ve just spent three nights at Heron House, just come with me linger while I transport you into this beautiful house. Upon entering your eye looks to the back door beyond to the quiet and beautiful secret garden. ||The old creeking wooden staircase that transport you back in time with thoughts of ladies in their long dresses, Oh if these stairs could speak what a tale could be told. Each bedroom with its own unique decor. The Lounge, Breakfast room - if you have ever ||purchased the magazine “Home & Antiques “ then Heron House should feature in this. The house is truly beautiful. Yes breakfast, the choice is endless-but do try the yougart . I must say a word for the proprietor Mrs Fiona Clifford , elegant, charming. ||I didn’t want to leave.
