The service is friendly and prompt (though it was very quiet for a Saturday lunchtime). I ordered the chilli dog, which tasted fine, by no means the nicest I've had. But I soon realised that the sausage was still cold in the middle. It is beyond worrying that the chef can't even cook a sausage through properly. They took my drink off the bill, which was a nice gesture. But I won't be going back.
Average, for sure. 'Replicating' rather than 'innovating'', compared to the competition, it is sub-standard (and pricey at that). The quality of burgers are OK, but if the owners had a passion for their product I'd have expected they might mix up the menu since it opened or introduce 'specials', taking a leaf out of other independent burger joints in London .. or at least get the product as good as it can be. Put it this way - I doubt there is a focus on sourcing quality beef for the the patties, I doubt the pulled pork is slow-cooked on site, I doubt the mac and cheese is freshly made (or at least made the right way) .. this is all based on what I tried. I might be wrong but I found them, as I say, average. Again, price doesn't reflect the quality and you leave feeling a little underwhelmed when you pay the steep bill (with 12.5% service charge added on).
We have been here a number of times, which is more because of the lack of choice of anything other than Italian or Chinese within walking distance. The service is consistently poor. I don't routinely write reviews but this morning, we went for the much talked about "Sunday brunch" - service just seems to be falling despite providing feedback numerous times. Food took 25 (!) mins to arrive. Eggs Florentine was luke warm. Chips were extremely oily and soft. Restaurant was half full so I can't see how staffing should be the limiting factor. Very, very sub-standard food and service. My husband is a big fan of American diners but this place is anything but, in all aspects.
Disappointing experience. Came here with family (5 of us) on one of the days between christmas and New Year. The restaurant was very quiet, but still took almost 1.5 hours for our food to arrive. Even then, 2 of the meals (ribs) had to be sent back as they were cold. This took a further 35 minutes to arrive, and then when the manager brought them over she was completely unaware of the problem. She apologised about the issue blaming 'a new cook'. My wife's ribs looked as if they were made up of two previously cooked portions as they were not a whole rack, just two parts put together on a plate. The ribs were removed from the bill upon request.
The burger I had was actually pretty nice; but the entire meal was ruined by the fact that 3 of us had eaten and finished about 25 minutes before the food for the remaining two even arrived.
Will not be returning, even if the manager was trying to convince us to take advantage of weekday promotions....
Too expensive. Good food but smaller portions and cheaper prices would suit me better. Having said that, if you like very large potions you may well like Hard 8. Glad to have gone once. Unlikely to go again though.
My family and I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. The atmosphere was relaxed and I would recommend this restaurant to others. The only gripe being that the restaurant was understaffed but our waiter was attentive throughout our meal
On a separate note, I feel the food is reasonably priced and am somewhat surprised at the other negative comments regarding price. The prices are available online and you would be expected to pay the same elsewhere
Would you order traditional battered fish and have to order chips as a side? No. They come together because they go together. So why are they are a side with a burger here? What a rip-off. Should be rammed as choices locally aren't great. It's not, and am not surprised. Over priced - and arrogant - they need to read and act on the raft of poor reviews citing the price, quality and service. It's not rocket science.
Myself and my wife had the worse food poisoning we have ever experienced after eating burgers from Hard 8 Burger in December. I was violently throwing up from 2am to 4pm on the Monday, and only able to hold down food by 1am on Tuesday, after eating takeaway from them on the Sunday afternoon.
I phoned them around 6pm the day after, which was the earliest point I felt capable of making a phone call, and was told by the first member of staff that it was my own fault for ordering a strawberry & oreo milkshake mix, which they had not done before. Even if I was in the mood for a joke, unbelievably it was not meant in this way. Eventually I had a call back from a "manager", who unapologetically told me that I did not have food posioning!!!
Having been there, I expected the manager to be female, and a few days later I had a call from Samantha, who was a big improvement on the previous employees I had spoken with. I finally got a genuine apology! Unfortunately this was about all I got though. Having speant over £50 on that visit (for 3 burgers, sweet potatoe fries, onion rings and a milkshake) I thought it was reasonable to ask for a refund. Samantha endeavoured to resolve this for me, but this was turned down by the business owner who was apparently worried about a refund being an admission of guilt. When I further explained to Samantha the poor customer service I experience from her colleagues, I was convinced that I would receive a refund and convinced that Samantha would try her best but 2 months later I have still not received a phone call.
I am very disappointed to be dismissed in this way, having initially called in with the aim of helping them solve a potential food poisoning issue and having only ever spoken to them politely and with understanding even though my wife and I were out of action for several days as a result of the food poisoning from Hard 8 Burger.
I had previously had takeaway from there 3 or 4 times, and enjoyed the food, but will not be going back having been treated in this way. My wife and I were both ill despite one of us having Chicken and one of us having Beef, so can only conclude that the food poisoning came from a kitchen staff member who themselves had a virus, or that it had something to do with how the food was prepared that day. Thankfully what happened to us appears to be isolated, I just hope they improve their customer service for others.
