Under new ownership this is the Best Fish and Chip shop in Watchet.. Would recommend the Cod & Chips, decent mushy pea fritter nice freindly service
Nice people but cold chips that tasted quite revolting.
Will not return.
I have to agree on the less positive reviews on this chippy.
Tried it out today for a lunch takeaway and can confirm the chips were just edible being greasy, the fish on the other hand was delicious having a lovely crispy batter.
The staff were courteous but not friendly which is a shame for a customer service role.
Would I eat from here again I would hand on heart say "no".
There's a lot of mixed reviews here and this wasn't our first choice but the only other chippy was shut due to technical difficulties so we gave it a go. All portion sizes were pretty good. The fish was neither over nor under cooked but the batter was slightly soggy. Chips were OK. Curry sauce was good. The mushy peas were grey and the only flavour they had was metallic. Overall this was OK but would not have the peas again.
We had a fancy for fish and chips so sent hubby off to Watchet. Never again, the fish was over cooked and the chips tasted rank and some were raw inside. How can you get it so wrong. The chips were brown but raw inside put them in air fryer to finish off but no they still tasted tank perhaps the oil was old.
Chips were lovely and very generous portions however must say this would have been to try to cover the fact the fish had either been sat around all day or flash fried on the sun. It was tastesless and so crunchy I imagine a car crusher would struggle to chew it up.
We went back the next day to complain however they were closed at the time we popped by. Recommend anywhere else in the local area for fish. But will reiterate the chips were lovely.
We visit Watchet regularly (have done so for at least 8 years now). The last time we went for fish and chips here it was dreadful, and disappointing. The chips were okay but the fish was stale grey, very sad, mushy and undercooked. As we had only shared one portion hubby ate most of it (glad I am a slow eater), however when we reflected on our tea we agreed it was NOT up to standard. I have previously left excellent reviews for this little place but we will not go back again. I would question any food hygiene rating as the food handling skills of the staff are poor. Whilst we have to eat in the car rather than in the harbour we have taken our business to Johns chippy in Williton. Much better food and well worth the wait.
Most of the previous reviews are confusing as we have been here twice recently and both times the fish and chips have been excellent. We did have to wait a while but this only ensured freshly battered and freshly cooked fish and chips. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely come back next time we are in Watchet!
