Milton Abbas is well off the beaten track. It is very Dorset in its feel and nature. Surrounded by farmland and forest. No street lights to speak of and really quiet. At the moment the village is hosting some amazing wooden horse sculptures. Thatched roofs and a wide main street make this a picture postcard village in the heart of rural Dorset. It actually gets properly dark here. Not that you would know any of that from inside this pub. Beautifully appointed inside, really well taken care of with a staff team who are friendly and professional. Great selection of drinks and food alongside regular entertainment and events. You can elect to stay here as well as there are rooms on the first floor. I did not stay this time but I am planning to.
If you can find it you will not regret your efforts.
Family live in the village so popped in for a late afternoon pint. They didn’t fancy it, which should have given me a clue. Irredeemably rude service from an obviously drunk woman at the bar who not only looked and sounded irritated by my presence but also made a mess of a simple order, pouring the wrong drinks. Zero atmosphere inside. No wonder my relatives passed - they’ve completely given up on it.
Just popped in to ask for some help. My mum's car battery had died and we weren't able to bump it due to the immobiliser kicking in, we went into the pub asking if anyone has any jumper leads and we're quickly given a very sarcastic and condescending answer of "there's a big hill there, what you do is put it in gear and push it down!" Before we were given the chance to explain that, a) we have already tried this and b) all 3 of us actually have some mechanical knowledge and one of us is an actual mechanic! Overall the staff and patrons are very rude and unhelpful.
We popped in here for bank holiday lunch with famlly. Nice family room with games for the children. Tasty sandwiches, homemade sausage rolls and quiche. Great beers. The landlady was very sociable and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit if u r in the area. Super little village.
Our favourite local public House! Wonderful atmosphere and welcoming landlord, Kieth, not forgetting his fiancé Bev!
Lovely place to have lunch and a drink with the family. ||Friendly and amazing food. They also have some lovely photos and drawings of how the area use to look.||Highly recommend visiting this pub in a beautiful location.
Came to stay locally from out of town for my birthday, we had researched the pub in advance as it was walking distance. The landlords were very friendly and chatty and the pub was immaculately clean. The only disappointment was they weren’t serving food such a shame as the website didn’t state this, in hindsight we should have called in advance, we then had to drive to get a takeaway in the next town 8 miles away. All in all lovely for a drink friendly landlords.
Great pub , jack Hargreaves was once a local too ????
