Not like any chow mein I've ever had before. Overcooked noodles, no beansprouts and a weird gravy like sauce. Sorry, but I couldn't eat it. Chips portion was half what you'd expect. Couldn't pay on card, has to do bank transfer. Girl in the shop was lovely though.
Stars are purely only for the lady on the front desk as she was great. Food shocking, so disappointed, tiny portions compared to most Chinese Takeaways. Not enough flavour at all. Very let down.
Popping in to see Katie at the Golden Rice is always a treat. You are greeted by a warm smile, and once you have placed your order, you can then marvel at her amazing multitasking skills. I have seen that lady, take a call, note down an order, and work out the price, all while wrapping the food that has come out of the hatch behind her. Between these times, she's always up for a pleasant chat while you wait for your takeaway. She's awesome! The food from here has always been delicious and reasonably priced, which is why it has now been my regular Chinese takeaway for years and the go to place after every haircut session in Hexham to finish off my evening. Please note its cash only, but that is hardly a problem as there are a number of ATMs close by.
Like, bloody yum! Food here is absolutely delicious. Chap who runs the kitchen is dead friendly. Portions are a rather on the small side but I think they're going for quality over quantity. Would be nice if the carton was full but jeez... bloody nice! Try the salt & pepper squid, beautiful.
I tend to go for the sweet and sour chicken or the shredded peeking chicken with egg fried rich. Which are my favourites. So, it guaranteed tasty delicious food each time! And Katie is the best! Lovely lady. She's always cheerful, no matter the weather (sort of speaking)
Surpassed expectations. Comfy bench in the waiting area. Had curry with soft noodles, and vegetarian curry with chips. Generous portions, great prices, fast and friendly service. Highly recommended!
We ordered £74 worth of food , no free prawn crackers after spending so much .
My partner and I ordered House special chow mien, what was special? Nothing , no beef no chicken a few prawn and one slice of pork. I rang to complain, to be told " he must have forgotten to put them in" what ? What kind of chef is he ?
I sent my daughter in for a snack as we were eating late, 2 sides (soft noodles/fried rice) curry sauce and she ordered some prawn crackers - as we drove off she told me it was £12.20 I immediately thought there must be a mistake, I d expected it to be around £6/7 so we checked their menu online, we could only see the noodles which were £3.50 before the call connected I explained a mistake has been made with the order and was told no mistake was made…that the noodles were £5, I stopped her and said your menu states £3.50 and she insisted it was £5 then listed extortionate prices upto £12.20
Flabbergasted I hung up, we can get 2 full meals for that price from our usual Chinese!
To add insult to injury the curry sauce was green, it looked and smelled like a baby’s nappy so that went straight in the bin, the rice was very dry, the noodles were mediocre.
