Shaftesbury is a nice village and Goldenhill is absolutely amazing! Once you have seen gold Hill, everything else will look so plain, so make sure that you leave that for last and you’ll leave with the sweetest memories of this place. You can find free parking pretty much everywhere and on a sunny day visiting this place is a real treat.
The 'Hovis' advert that used this location and aired on TV when I was a child is indelibly imprinted in my mind!
Parking is readily available in the town and is just a short stroll to the famous Gold Hill. The film studios have the knack of dressing a location to the point of deception! The street is traditionally cobbled and quite steep, though there is a handrail for those less agile! The term quintessentially English certainly applies to Gold Hill. The term anti climatic may also loom in ones mind!
Beautiful little village, lovely walk loads of little nooks and crannies, famous for the hovis advert, pictures dont do it justice, it's a must see place
I thought Gold Hill has a wonderful oldie worldy feel about it, and when you get to the top of the hill, you can rest and seek refreshments as there is a lovely café and there is also a mussuam, also a fantastic bead shop called beadster, the whole place is full of character with amazing shops, I found a lot of the people were really friendly, great place to visit
I visited on a Sunday, on the day it was free car parking in the town with a small walk to the hill. Great view, famous TV location.
We saw the modern equivalent of Ridley Scott's baker boy hauling the street's supermarket deliveries up the hill. The job is not so romantic anymore; "I hate this street," he told me. But for the tourist it is still special. It is quintessential England, with thatched cottages clinging to a steep hill and miles and miles of green rolling hills behind.
Lovely place. Went there as I've seen so many pictures about it and even though I live in the area I've never been. It isn't a big place, it's actually very small street and very short but it just looks lovely and very english. We went on a very sunny and hot day but as nice.
Gold Hill is is a steep, cobbled hill, which is one of the prettiest streets in England, made famous by a 1973 Hovis TV commercial but before that it appeared in the film Far From The Madding Crowd. Its picture has also featured on many chocolate boxes and calendars. No parking is allowed on the hill.
