The view from the Lodge was incredible. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were well cooked with plenty of choice including delicious homemade bread. We liked the fact that there are no televisions in the rooms, the lounge was extremely comfortable with complimentary hot drinks and an honesty bar. Great location for walking from the door or exploring the local area by car. As previous reviews have mentioned the road up to the Lodge is in need of some repairs but that should not put anyone off staying here.
After reading the reviews we weren’t quite sure what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised. Yes the road leading to the lodge needs repairs but the fantastic location of the lodge makes up for that. |We found all staff to be welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are large with fantastic views from the rooms on the front of the property. Yes, they could maybe do with some updating but were clean and well equipped. I believe it is a community run lodge and I do hope they get the support that they require.
When we arrived we were disappointed at first sight. But when we saw our room and the lounge it felt much better. A great place to stay because of the unique location, the nice room and sitting area and the perfect breakfast. The road to the lodge is dramatic but worth it...
...and that is a community enterprise trying very hard to run and maintain a business against a lot of difficulties.||||The property is in a wonderful location outside of Lochinver - but the road, especially that from the walker's car park, needs significant repair. The building is a Victorian shooting lodge, and most areas are well decorated but 'tired'. The double bed we had was comfortable enough, but the furnishings are beginning to show their age. And don't expect a television in your room!||||The lounge, with its honesty bar, is comfortable and well stocked with books. The breakfast room is comfortable enough, and the cooked breakfast was acceptable. Very tasty food, but as the woman who checked us in said, they had recently lost their chefs and were struggling on that front.||||The staff were friendly and helpful, and if you get a day when the weather is clear the views of the local mountains are superb. But just hope that if you want to wander around admiring the views there is some breeze. As otherwise the midges will be out in force, and they are not to be trifled with!||||So, accepting the place for what it is I would definitely return for the peace, quiet, and the views. But only if I can get my car down the access road without risking the suspension!
The place is run as a community hotel. The views are to die for and our room overlooked Sullivan. There are boats if want to row on the loch. Our room had a large and very comfortable bed but the bathroom was just outside our room but was not shared with anyone else. The place needs updating but very helpful staff. Breakfast was well made with a good selection. There are no evening meals but goos restaurants in Lochinver.
Beautiful place, setting is just amazing and rooms huge and very comfortable. Terry our host is only young but very nice. Not sure she has the experience or knowledge to run it all when it gets busy. Also it only serves breakfast which needs some organizing and a better chef as some things not cooked well. Dinner is not available at this hotel. I gave it 4 stars for the setting and Lodge.
We arrived at this lodge in its stunning location at around 3.15pm we were aware that we could only check in after 4pm so we wandered down to the loch at the side of the loch we were amazed to see a stag stood looking at us not too far away amazing . At four o clock we rang the doorbell to which there was no answer we tried again several times up until 4.20 but still no reply i tried to phone the lodge but no mobile phone service. The door was finally answered by a harassed looking lady who told me she wasnt expecting any people until tuesday . I showed her my booking confirmation to which she replied that she was on her own cleaning the rooms after a large party which was strange as there was a younger girl milling around in the background ( maybe she was a ghost ) the lady said she would have to phone her manager as she said this another car pulled up and i said looks like someone else wants to check in . You are joking was the reply. Off she went to make said phone call as she did this another car pulled up and two men came in to check in we were all shown into a comfortable lounge while phone call was being made. We were told that she was going to try and get rooms cleaned but one couple who had booked the best room for three nights were told they would have to have a different room for the first night. She also told us the manager would be in in the morning and that he would sort us out some money off the hundred and fifty pounds that we had paid up front| We informed the lady that we were walking into village for a restaurant booking at five thirty so she could get the other peoples rooms ready first as we would only need ours around 8 o clock and would just use the down stairs loo to freshen up and get changed . The lady looked very relieved at this. As i was getting changed i heard the poor woman running around like a headless chicken trying to clean the rooms. As we were about to leave two ladies arrived to check in so i showed them into the lounge with the other bemused guests and explained the situation to which one of them said well at least we only paid 51 pounds for our room which we were all bemused by to which she said they only had booked a budget room which explained this . Off we went to walk to restaurant as we walked down the lane we passed a car with a family of four in it we both burst out laughing and said you couldnt write a script like this . As we were enjoying our meal the two men from our lodge turned up and said their room would be ready for them when they got back hopefully he then pointed to a family of four and said that french family have just arrived and been told they would also have to wait . So in total their were 12 of us waiting for rooms . On arriving back at the lodge we were met in the lounge by the two ladies waiting for their budget room and also by who i am assuming was the manager who told us our room would-be ready soon. We helped ourselves to drinks from the honesty bar and the man said they are on us to which we said no its ok we will pay ( which we did) we were then showed to our room with a lovely view of the loch. The room itself was great apart from mould on bathroom ceiling. On talking to the two ladies with the budget room they said their room had a view of a wall. What i don't get is if they had no record of any of our bookings how did they know who had booked which rooms (very shady ) after a good nights sleep we went down to breakfast and were met by the same lady from yesterday ( i am sorry we didnt get your name as you were so busy but thankyou for all the hard work that you put in if it wasnt for you we would have had nowhere to stay ) after a nice breakfast we checked out with the manager who thanked us for being understanding of the situation. I dont normally leave negative reviews only positive but due to the mans attitude next this is why i had to be truthful about our full stay. My husband pointed out about the mouldy ceiling in the bathroom and told him you can get special paint for this to which the man replied yes i am aware of the mould and i know of that paint but there are a thousand other jobs that need to be done as well that we dont seem to get around to doing ...what a reply . With that we left on talking with one of the villagers we were told that all of the staff had been finished and that it was due to close so if you have booked here please double check as i wouldnt want others to be subjected to same as us.
A beautiful place inside the forest. It was an amazing experience driving to the Lodge and staying there. The rooms are quite big and clean. Bathrooms are huge and well maintained. Staff is very friendly and ready to help. Rach needs special mention. Just remember to checkin before 8:30 if you need dinner else kitchen will be closed. The town is very small and chance of getting food is negligible. The scenery around the lodge is beautiful and you can see deers running around. There is also a hiking trail goes by the lodge. Parking is present just in front. Night photography and sunrise is best visible. Very good breakfast available.
