This lovely old lodge was built in 1868 by Queen Victoria and is in one of the most perfect locations, now owned by King Charles of course! One can only imagine how glorious it must have been in it's heyday. Now part is used as a bothy for hikers but is also an excellent picnic spot in it's own right. Toilets on site and if you do stay the night there is plenty of space but you'll have house mates. A great base to continue the hike to Glsas-allt-Shiel Falls and Lochnagar
Fantastic location, plenty of parking at a reasonable price. Clean toilet facilities and easy access for the walk around the Loch.
The very much closed up hunting lodge on the Balmoral Estate. We park the car and took a slow lap of Loch Muick was took around 3hrs.
It would be good to see inside however all of the shutters are closed. The path of the northern side of the lock was a lot easier and well made
The perfect place to stop if walking round the loch is the old hunting lodge used by Victoria which sits at the base of the impressive Alt Shiel waterfall further up the glen. A solid victorian hunting lodge now lies empty amongst the pine trees which is a great place for a picnic and a cooldown by the lochs edge
Beautiful location, the walk around the Loch Muick is around 6 1/2 miles, ensure you wear appropriate footwear, most of the circular walk is easy, around 1 mile is narrow and rocky, so be mindful.
Great day out and so lush, beautiful place.
Impressive, historic house with stunning views of Loch Muick.would be good if there tours to see inside, as it has an interesting history.
Bothy to the rear, but was closed on the day I visited.
Didn't actually walked around the loch on that side, but the opposite side. But if you reach the place on your stroll around the like.Don't forget to climb up the hill to see the waterfall,it's well worth the climb.
Lovely area, the bothy is worth a stop if you’re looking for somewhere sheltered to enjoy your lunch. If you’re planning on staying overnight, I’d be prepared to share the space with others as it seems quite popular. When we stayed, there were six others in with us. The bothy itself has two floors though, so plenty of room for everyone.
