Best KPortal Reviews

If you don't like talking to the people you come out with then this is the place for you! If you enjoy a nice conversation with your meal then avoid...
The volume in here was so loud, it was a Saturday evening so we knew there would be entertainment but it was still during dinner service. We were in a large group seated round a large table, you could only hear the person next to you. It was deafening and ruined our meal.
Food orders were slow, drinks were reasonably quick. The prices are pricey, I know you're paying for atmosphere/location but you would expect something semi decent for £30 (rough price of a main course) I ordered the 'rack' of lamb. It came overcooked, and there were only 2 tiny pieces, accompanied by a small square of dauphinous & some raw green beans. I was not even remotely full & the taste wasn't even enough to compensate for the size.
The staff were polite and friendly, I assume they get given Earplugs to work here? As I don't know how they can hear a thing. Music was varied and the singer played hits from between 2000-present.
Would not come back out of choice. Only reason this isn't a 1 star review is because the staff were nice and the decor of the restaurant was pleasant.
£100 for 2 people and we had to stop for a snack on the way home because we left hungry... not the best way to spend my Saturday evening!
We popped in here on a Saturday night around 8pm for a cocktail before a night out. The bar was busy and noisy in a good way. Lots of atmosphere and a great live singer. We found a table and great friendly waiter service for drinks which were great. £14 per drink which I would say was fair enough for the service and venue. We will definitely return.
Restaurant review. Being a local and hearing the news this was the first time trying Funky Monk on a Sunday lunchtime. The restaurant was very quiet compared to The George up the road. The staff are attentive and the cocktails were great. However the food was a mixed bag. The bread was microwaved and really chewy so we left most of it, and some of the pork scratchings were inedible. The apple sauce was forgotten and we had to ask for it.
The main platter of seafood was delicious but the mussels were missing and we had to ask before it was explained that extra prawns replaced them as they were unavailable.
For the price they charge, the quality of food is unacceptable and you can get better food elsewhere for less. So sad, as the location is great.
Decor is really good. Staff friendly.
The food!
My advice would be to reduce cost and improve quality. Most locals go to the George for the very reason that the food is good and prices reasonable. Had Sunday lunch hoping it would be a treat but it wasn’t.
I would love to see this place survive as it has real potential.
Can’t recommend this place enough!!! Checked-in for a 7 night stay and upon arrival was greeted with a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Without a doubt one of the best hotel rooms that I’ve ever stayed in! Luxury in abundance with bedding that felt like silk. The staff were professional, polite and attentive to your needs, even going the extra mile. My iPhone charger would not charge and Costas dealt with this issue promptly. My partner had a stomach virus and some breakfast and evening meals were serviced to my room. Special thanks to Mira and Costas for making our experience a good one. Would definitely return ????
After reading recent reviews I was a little worried about visiting however so pleased we did and I could make my own mind up. We thoroughly enjoyed it, food was good, staff were lovely, fabulous decor and the atmosphere was great. I would definitely go again. Not the cheapest eating place in Epping but you know that before you get there.
The venue is beautiful, and the staff on arrival were lovely. They welcomed us with a reception drink and explained that they have live music and a dj until midnight. They were offering us to join (not explaining this would also affect our stay.) They showed us to our room which again was stunning and clean.
First nagative, no toilet paper in the loo. There wasn't anyway of discreetly calling to notify anyone, you would have to walk in to the main bar and ask for some. Our stay was on a Saturday so the restaurant was as you can imagine very busy. We decided to save the embarrassment we would purchase our own from the shop across the road.
Second negative, although we were aware of the entertainment we were unaware how loud this was actually going to be. It was as if it was in the room nextdoor. It was extremely loud and and didn't stop until gone midnight.
Over all the venue and location are beautiful but the small things let it down just slightly.
Booked a table for the resteraunt for Saturday evening.for birthday celebrations. When we arrived was told we had to sit in bar area as no available tables were in the resteraunt. No tables were laid in this area. I like to see people but this was full up with people all standing around the tables. The girl who we spoke to was very apologetic. We approached the owner as he was there making the decions then left the girl to it and didn't approach us. When I told him that I had booked in advance he just shrugged his shoulders and said nothing he could do, didn't even offer a drink to apologise. Very very arrogant. All he is interested in is people going in there drinking. |Would not go there again.
