We stopped at the Fat Pigeon Cafe for a birthday breakfast with 12 people. The food took a while to come out. The portion sizes for our meals were quite small for the price. The milk shake was well made. The service was friendly. The cafe was clean and cozy, and warm for a cold day. Our biggest letdown was the meals. The blue cheese crepe was very difficult to eat. It had too much cheese and was such a strong flavour that we couldn’t finish it. The sausage roll was quite dry. Overall, we had an average experience, but nothing memorable.
Stopped for lunch on our way back to Auckland. First time lunchers even though we travwl through PioPio regularly. Suprised at the popularity and wide menu selection. Coffee was great (Evolve brand). Only comment, not a criticism....if you are in a rush and its over lunch time, the queue might be long... but its worth the wait!!
Fabulous large spacious dining areas inside and out. Staff friendly, efficient. Fabulous cabinets full of food but not much vegan and gluten free to choose from ... Also bits and pieces of gifts to purchase.
Loved our caffeine fix here this afternoon! The coffee was delicious, the melting moment just right, and service was with a smile. A lovely café!
Stopped here for lunch on the way between Hamilton and New Plymouth.
Very busy at the time (it was school holidays).
Great selection of food and beverages, either from the counter or the blackboard menu.
They also have gifts and other food items for sale too.
A small bridge takes you over to a lovely playground too. Great for families.
Nice clean toilets too (x3).
Plenty of parking, too.
Would definitely recommend making it a place to stop at on a road trip if it's around food time!
Lovely atmosphere with great seating indoors or the outdoor gazebo area with large tables. Food looked great in the cabinet but the cranberry slice was just average. Maybe I should have gone for the mixed berry cheesecake that looked much nicer. Drinks good. Service good

Absolutely delicious coffee and sweets. I had a vanilla custard cronut that was out of this world and my local friends had the very special custard imported from the South Island, wow, wow!! Great place, please don’t pass it up on the highway!
