Pub visit like no other from bygone era. Authentic and brilliant. Land lady 90+yo Bessie life goal what an inspiration. Nice pint after 1hr 30min walk Pontfaen
Fantastic slice of history to be walked through. Beautiful old pub, you will always be met with a smile and best that you like a pint of bass served from a jug. A gem of a place from a different time.
An institution, such a great place to sit and look around, I called in on a hot Sunday, Bessie was having a nap so spoke with her son who sorted us with a good Bass ale.
Highly recommended for the experience, no frills and nowhere else like it
We were the only patrons there.
A very traditional Welsh country tafern.
Bass beer sold direct from barrel via jug to glass.. As a beer lover it was a pleasure to visit this pub.
No fancy trappings, decorations or music. I could imagine in the 1950/60s sawdust scattered on the floor and local farm hands gathering for a well earned pint after a day in the fields. The pub is in a tiny village, off the beaten track. There is very little parking space and very basic toilets. We enjoyed the nostalgia of our visit. This place is possibly the only place in Wales where the parlour is the bar, served through a hatch. Do not expect g&ts or cocktails. Just Bass no lagers.
Old rundown pub. Great Bass though.
It's a time capsule hasn't changed in probably a hundred years. It definitely would not suit second home owner croud or the well to do dressed to impress type . Good for walkers and ordinary folk and ornithologist. Keg bass is about it. No food. I loved it
Fantastic beer, served in a proper pub. Truly the best hand served beer I have had in ages. Don't let the pubs rustic appearance fool you. This place is a gem. Highly recommended.
I can't say enough how welcoming this lovely pub is nestling in Cwm Gwaum . . . The landlady and regulars are equally welcoming, enjoying a laugh and a chat. . . And WOW if you know your Bass, you won't enjoy a better pint served straight from the barrel into a jug. Five Stars.
