Best KPortal Reviews
Perfect place for family dinner. Authentic Somali cuisine, loved the lamb shank and beef sogaar. Youth serving us were so lovely.
Wow the food was superb ???? 9/10
I ordered lamb shoulder with pasta and rice.
The lamb was amazing 9/10 super soft ????
Rice 8/10 perfect no complaints ????
Pasta 6.5/10 was OK but had less flavour, but what I reckon is it might be Somalian spice that's why. Hot mild spicy sauce with past gives extra taste ????
The food here was exquisite!
The service was great. Staff were helpful with guidance on what to order and what is popular amongst the regulars.
The atmosphere is friendly and brotherly.
Not a fine dining kind of place and there were mostly men there.
Went as a group of 6 to try this Somali restaurant and we really enjoyed it. The food was extremely tasty, the vibes were friendly with the staff and customers.
We ordered the 3 to 4 (two guys ordered individually) shared platter with a base of Somali rice, two chicken legs and 2 lamb shanks and a bunch of vegetables and salad. And were given soup on the house as a starter!
I didn't realise how nice Somali food was until a few years ago I stumbled upon the cuisine at a place far in West London. If you're hungry and you want full filling food then Damal is definitely a place to go. I first went to Damal last year and comparing it to recently, last Friday when I went, is definitely a different environment due to the refurbishment. Before the downstairs was a little bit needing some TLC but now I can see some effort has definitely gone in and it looks very nice and cosy. As always Damal is very busy as the kitchen is constantly flying out with lamb shanks. Even if you're going in a group of 3, 4, 5, don't over order. They're not shy with their portions. We usually go for the middle portion tray size and it easily feeds 4 people. There's a lot of rice and a lot and a lot of meat. If you say you ate there and came back feeling not full then there's something wrong with you. The lamb shanks are so tender you literally lift the bone and the meat falls off. Very succulent. I've heard some great things about the fish however I am not a big fan of fish so I don't really eat fish. But I see in other people's trays the salmon goes down very well. The food cannot be eaten without the amazing green sauce and red sauce. Be careful, the green sauce does have a kick so go easy with it. My only gripe is that I notice that Asian people never get banana. Maybe it's a cultural thing. The last two times I went I definitely had to go upstairs and grab some bananas. You have to have the banana with the food. It's a weird but yummy combination. And lastly the mango lassi. Again, I don't drink milk being lactose intolerant. However, my friends at Family Square buy the mango lassi. I stick to my Shani drink which compliments very well with the food. The other thing is you kind of don't know who's working there as the staff don't have any particular uniform. It feels like random people serving you. Service can be a bit slow but it's not forgotten. They take order, the food does come, you just have to wait a little bit. But other than that, it's a good treat for my family when we're feeling like good Somali food and it really does hit the spot when I go to meet my friends for Salatul Jummah on a Friday.
First time having Somali food and it did not disappoint. The portion sizes are generous, the meat fell off the bone and the rice was amazing.
Personally feel like the interior design of the restaurant needs to be looked at as it didn’t really give me a sense of comfortability whilst I dined, and the toilet definitely wasn’t somewhere you’d want to visit to say the least. But all in all, great value food.
Saw this place booming off on TikTok, I had to try it for myself and see what it’s about. After visiting this place I’ve been again 4 times and I live an hour and a half away, In a complete different town. Doesn’t phase me as it’s worth the miles. A lot of people will have different experiences and opinions but for me this is the best Somali joint in the UK. When you go in to the shop start counting down because you’ll receive your food in less than 2 mins the service there is exceptional and they always find space to accommodate you even if the shop is full to the brim. Lovely staff and most importantly lovely food!
I am a regular customer
I ordered a lamb’s shoulder for takeout.. I believe it was yesterday’s leftover!
The shoulder was like rubber, and the rice was dry too.
Mostly, they are good
but I don’t think I would be coming back, not taking chances!
Very nice food! And great atmosphere and customer service.
Went with 7 people and got 2 of the “2-3 people platters”, one with lamb shank and other with shoulder. We only got rice and there was plenty left over!
No wait time as food was served very quick. The biscoff milk cake was impressive so don’t forget to get that for desert!
