Very slow service took 50 minutes to get our food after ordering. Then the pizza were ok but the pasta was very oily (see picture) and they couldn’t find any cheese. The toilets were in disrepair.
Arrived in the area for a few days having a wonder though the little village looking for somewhere to eat saw this little pizza place. Greater by a young lad who showed us to our table and asked if we'd like anything to drink, took our food order where we waited about 15 mins for our food which came fresh and hot. Food was delicious and the cheesy garlic bread was to die for .
Visited for an evening meal on Saturday night.
Host who I presumed was owner/manager was very friendly although looked slightly under dressed.
The food was very basic although very tasty, and good value for money.
Atmosphere a little underwhelming.
This venue only accepts cash.
Okay so, we were staying nearby and needed to have some tea and saw pizza and thought brilliant, came in and it looked great, well presented but there was no indication of whether to wait to be seated or anything so we stayed where we were and waited. A young man came over. Barely said a word except to basically let us sit anywhere, so we did. The window had a small collection of dead flies but that doesn’t put me off my food. He very quietly asked us what we’d like to drink, we gave our order, he went off. Twenty minutes later, we got our drinks and he apologised about the wait (it was mostly quiet) then ordered our starters and main and made sure he heard exactly what we would like. Waited another half an hour. Thoroughly enjoyed the starters. Garlic mushrooms with dough balls and garlic bread. Lovely food, so nearly 45-ish minutes go by and a young lass comes to the table with the wrong order, they’re going around tables trying to find out where it is.
I’m sort of losing patience by then, I won’t lie and nearly asked hubby to pay for what we had and leave. He wanted to just give benefit of the doubt. The food came, my hubby ordered T-bone steak rare, it was medium, and I had to ask if my side was coming, they brought it no problem and they asked us if food was okay and partner said that he was a little unhappy he got a medium and not a rare steak, she apologised and he said it’s fine, I will still eat it but the young lad has barely communicated. and that’s not great. She explained they worked long hours etc. It’s more nods and “mm-hmms” etc. We ate the food. She didn’t look happy. None of them did tbh. To me, as an outsider, they looked under 18. There were people who were in after us and they’ve been in, ordered, paid and gone. The business needs to really change how they operate and they can’t say they’re busy because it was quiet when we arrived. The “chef” asked us what we wanted from the situation and insinuated we wanted a free meal. We said no, we will pay what was appropriate for the poor service we received. He also said my partner should have sent the steak back and he would have made another but my partner said no, because one he would have waited another 45 minutes for food and two, he wasn’t going to waste the food. He did take money off the bill and we left
Food was decent, owner/manager was an arrogant so and so. Treating staff disgustingly and seemed to be in cloud cukkoo land. Drinks took forever to arrive however was hot and tasty. Could tell it must have been made in advance. Beer was disgusting so said I was not paying for it so it got knocked off the bill. Staff seemed not to be able to do right for wrong in eyes of the awful manager/awful.
Been working in Bala for the last 6 months, lots of brilliant places to eat around here, but this is my favourite. Food is absolutely beautiful and staff polite and engaging.
Really good experience:
One of the few places open late enough in the evening when we arrived in Bala. Staff were funny and extremely friendly and happy to accommodate us. Yes it's not inventive sneerless Heston Blumenthal style cuisine pined for by the metropolitan liberal elite who expect fresh burrata on every pizza and crushed himalayan salt. However it was good honest value, it filled us up, gave us a damn good loading of carb goodness and service was attentive, honest and with a smile. Cannot fault that at all.
So what if they take cash only? Maybe not everyone wants to sign up to a payment system where they get a tithing of their well earned dough taken just for the sake of some cashless ponce's convenience?
Starter of cheesy garlic bread, a well portioned opener drizzled liberally with olive oil and nice flavoursome grated cheese on a well oven'd doughy base.
Mains we had the pizza, the american hot did not disappoint, sparse in appearance but full of flavour. The four seasons also did well, with a generous topping of each item on the pizza, and the mushrooms were done to perfection. Roasted just enough to take the rawness off the mushroom but not enough to shrivel the mushrooms up like the back of an octogenarian's hand.
All in all, good honest food at a fair value price. Drinks were cheap and all served in a timely manner. Owner was a lovely chap who's trying to sell the slightly out of tune piano too.
I would have given 5 stars. However the service was very slow. The staff had no idea how to liaise and be professional with the public. However when the food eventually came it was just beautiful very tasty couldn't fault this at all. Unfortunately it is cash only and they did not state this when we ordered.
Beautiful designed restaurant.
Please retrain your very young staff.
