We were a party of 6 on holiday and, after looking at their website, decided this looked like a nice place to take our 86 year old mother for her birthday.
Unfortunately, their website didn't accurately portray our experience.
On entering, we were placed right next to the serving hatch. The decor was shabby, walls dirty and looked like the place hadn't been properly cleaned for a long time.
We also requested a clean glass as there was a fly in it.
We tried to see past this and hoped the food would have made up for it. But, to our disappointment, it didn't.
5 beef dinners...the meat was very tough and stuffing was hard. Veg was tasteless.
1 gammon...was so salty this was inedible. In all fairness we were refunded for this but waitress wasn't bothered about the beef being tough.
My sister in law saw some of the food being served with bare hands and not utensils. One of the staff members was wearing gloves but the other wasn't.
Customer service was just ok, staff appeared as though they really didn't want to be there.
Overall very disappointing and we should have trusted our instincts and walked out before ordering but, didn't want to mess our 86 year old mother around and drag her off looking for somewhere else.
The 6 of us would not recommend eating here unless major improvements were made.
Gluten free was a disaster my "pie' had no pastry whatsoever I ordered mushroom cheese and onion pie disappointed then ordered gluten free crumble and you guessed right no crumble disappointed yet again I am coeliac I cook with gluten free flour and gluten free pastry all the time no excuse sorry wo t be returning
We took a trip here last night, the food was un real all homemade to a very high standard I felt like I was going to burst but yet still couldn't stop eating as it was far to good to waste, I took my mum and dad it was there first visit and definitely wont be there last it was the best roast dinner we have had out in a very long time, place was very clean and tidy and service was great! We had a late sitting at 6pm and everything on the menu was still available nothing had ran out, and everything was as fresh as an earlier sitting can't wait to go back!
Stopped here with friends for lunch during our stay nearby.
It was quiet and we were the only ones in the pub, but it did not detract from the excellent food provided. Good choices on the lunchtime menu at reasonable prices with very adequate portions. Gets busy in the evenings and at weekends we were told by the very friendly and attentive staff member who served us.
A TALE OF TWO SITTINGS.
We were quite relieved to secure a seat as it was around 8pm on a Tuesday evening.
My good lady quickly saw her meal of choice Thai green curry although she was disappointed they wouldn't do 'half & half' but instead insisted she buy a separate portion of chips (which were actually frozen fries).
After a brief and unfulfilling conversation I plumped for the baked chicken, mac & cheese with a separate portion of garlic & parmesan fries.
This is were the experience splits into two - my meal although a little bland was acceptable however my wife (who is an excellent cook herself) described hers as disgusting, terrible and not what she expected at all. The curry contained no chicken and all she could taste was excess use of chillies which is bizarre considering thai green curry is a more subtle flavoured curry. We noticed afterwards there was a small and discreet 'v' next to the meal something my wife missed.
Here's the real kick in the teeth, whatever can be argued about the meal when the waitress came and did the obligatory 'How's your meal' question my wife responded honestly as above disgusting, terrible etc to our disbelief she just said 'oh okay' and toddled off with not even an offer of picking something else.
When i came
The food was a pleasure to look at aswell as having a great taste. The mushroom starter was awesome and the vinaigrette that was drizzled over was lovely when you had some on the fork. Stir-fry was brilliant, not swimming in the sauce and not to dry. But Goldilocks just right. It was not at all what I expected from the outside, from the photo's you think it is an old school pub but a nice restaurant in all and some funky pictures on the walls. The table staff were friendly enough and took the time to make you feel welcome. Thank you very much all for the great experience.
Great value for money, enjoyable food and very friendly and helpful staff.
Great Sunday lunch. Would definitely go again for that or to try midweek also.
Been to the outlet shopping down the road and needed food when we left there. Found this place as we both wanted a burger. Didn't disappoint, food was delicious, hot and filling so definitely worth a visit. Depending on the day of the week they have different deals on and a massive meat sharing platter on a Saturday which looked amazing in the photographs we saw.
