This place is a vibe!!! Went on a Friday night, don't know if there's karaoke every Friday or not but there was when I went with a dedicated singer. However the mic did get passed around and there were English songs to select too.
But I went there mainly as I heard great things about their seafood. And indeed it did not disappoint; I got the pescondo freitas??? May have butchered that but it was fried/grilled whole tilapia. So fresh, so yummy with generous helpings. My friends all went for the mixed seafood platter that had prawns, squid, mussels and king prawns, which i sampled too and that was gorgeous. They do do steak and chicken if you don't like seafood but honestly just went there for the seafood.
I couldn't finish mine but they plated it up for me beautifully in a take away container (with a £1 charge for the container). Will definitely go again as i saw a crab dish i want to try.
Great Ecuadorian food experience. Buzzy busy family atmosphere and generous hearty food at a good price. I came here for my birthday and had a very good experience. Would recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends which are extra busy as they serve special dishes.
The value for the meal was cheaper and the food was delicious. They had events in the night with Dj and singers. This not a big place for that I put 3 starts and they often had a queue.
Got the Ranchero for £13 in total. Decent sized portions and good flavour. Rice is well cooked and flavoured. Salad tastes fresh. Lots of meat.
Lots of Latinos inside the venue.
Slightly cheaper price than Nandos but you get a significantly larger portion size, hence 5 stars.
Not very impressed with the food they served for the money we paid. We got the meat grill (£32?) and the seafood grill £36 (specified : king prawns tiger prawns, squid, and other fishes, see attached picture of what we actually got! So shocked for such small amount of food.
In the past this place was well known for the big dishes, and taste but it has gone down, not worth the money. I went with all my hungry kids, we left hungry still.
Still shocked. 2 prawns!! 2 squids. 1 tiger prawn! I thought i took a picture of the meat grill but i hadn't. Not that impressed either.
Not going there again for sure.
They should also restrict kids after certain time because of the atmosphere in the evening on a Friday night/weekend, people drinking, very loud music, and some very inappropriate songs for children to be exposed to, unless you already have this environment at home...
We had to rush out beacuse of the videos shown on the tvs all around the restaurant.
A lovely little place tucked under one of the arches. Lots of customers inside speaking Spanish so that was a good sign already. The food was SO GOOD and generous sized portions, and the decor and music added a great vibe.
Tasty Ecuadorian food!
We had 'bandera', 'ceviche' and 'encebollado'.
The last one was incredibly good!
Portions are good for the price given.
Unfortunately service is not the best, there is lots of room to improve in that area as we were not shown a decent customer service.
The good news for them is that food was so good that I'd be happy to come back.
Last but not least, music was so loud that we had to be almost shouting to hear each other. I must say that it good Friday 10pm and I guess that everyone was in a party mood but us two.
Anyway, whoever has been making encebollado and ceviche should be congratulated. Good work on those two!
Hidden away under a railway arch in Elephant and Castle you will find a little bit of Ecuador in the shape of Costa Azul. This cafe/bistro serves typical Ecuadorian food such as cerviche, churasco platters and loads of fresh seafood dishes. I plumbed for the chicaron de calamar to start which was fresh and tasty. For my main I had the parihuela soup which is stuffed full of fresh prawns, squid, mussels and cassava in a spicy fish broth.Never tried Ecuadorian food before but would definitely come back to try more. Generous portions, reasonable prices and a lovely South American vibe.
