Visited with my sister. Lovely, family owned business. I was just going to order pie and mash since (shock horror) I don't really like liquor but the lady offered me gravy. I appreciate this is a big no-no for some but since it was offered I happily accepted.
Pies and mash were equally delicious, gravy was too. Service very friendly. Total cost for two pies, one mash, single pie one mash and two Cokes was £16.60 (Jan '24)
I haven’t tried, as I am not a pie fan, and also I thought they put too much gravy. I took my cousin as she wanted to try the tradicional pie. I am impressive with the price £4.50. I believe it is one of the cheapest places I ever seen on these days. The pie looks good but too much gravy even for her taste. Maybe I would suggest the gravy to be on the side. They just have one pie flavour, it was beef. It is a very simples place. Not sure if I would try, but the reviews were good and that’s why we went there. Located at the end of the Portobello market, just keep going and you will find this place
The only pie shop to match the beloved F Cookes in Shepherd's Bush of my childhood. Everything top notch. I've tried others but it's my regular in London now.
Warming pies, only one type of pie. Have to try the gravey next time. One of the pies was just right, unfortunately the second one was too hard on the edges. But if you want the simple hit of pie, def come here for one
1 mash 1 pie at 4.5pounds, so very reasonably priced. Tasted great with vinegar and pepper. Told the lady whom I assume is the owner that it was my 1st time eating mash & pie as it was my first time in London. She said the shop is around for 38 years. The place is a simple looking shop which you probably eat and go and around 9mins walk from Portobello Market. Only cash accepted.
Despite being the cheapest pie 'n' mash you'll find, here, it's also the very best. Proper pie 'n' mash; perfectly cooked on premises generously filled pie, lovely texture to mash and the liquor. They take their tea seriously here too, strong and flavoursome served in quality mugs that are sized between a mug and a bucket !. Cheerful attentive service, also impeccably clean. You can find food from all over the world in the Portobello road, but locals and people from all over the world come here for pie 'n' mash....lurvely grub !!. Robert from Twickenham.
