This 'secret' hideaway is an absolute delight. The hotel is a relaxed and traditional sanctuary with staff who cannot do enough for you. Great breakfast! Given that this part of Dorset is not blessed with places to eat the restaurant,at Castleman, is the stand out choice - great food in a relaxed environment. One day everyone will know about this place- go quickly before the maddening crowd know about it !
Reading all lovely reviews, makes me think either I went wrong restaurant or their chef quit the day we've visited! Wine is very reasonable, which is fantastic. But good review finish there. The butter served with bread was tasted like margarine. I had Mediterranean seafood soup, which was full of smoked paprika, with seafood bits all cooked too long. It tasted thin and sweet. My husband had avocado salad, which was OK, we both had dover sole for main. Great value, if it cooked nice, but the parsley sauce on the fish had same wired plastic taste of margarine, which was a shame. Vegetable was horrible as well. For the pudding, Poached pear was so hard, couldn't enjoy. I rather pay little more to have proper meal. They should change butter supplier, if it was butter. I put two stars instead of one just because friendly service, not for their food.
A warm ambiance and greeting presents itself in a beautiful appointed 18th century Queen Anne Manor. The Castleman has been operating for some time now and it's local reputation has always been well founded.
The prices are on par for the area and the menu is always being updated. Something that a number of local pubs fall short of. The diversity of the menu is not to vast, but offers just the right amount of variety with prices for the starters coming in at 4 - 6 pounds and main course ranging from 14 - 20 pounds and puddings are all 6 pounds.
If I had one complaint, I'd say their range of ales are somewhat limited.
The service is polite and friendly and you are certainly looked after. Overall a fantastic experience and one which should be shared by all.
Great place for a country break, beautiful surroundings, excellent food and lovely staff. Highly recommended.
Really lovely food prepared and served by first rate staff. Cannot recommend highly enough. Its quite pricey so definitely for a special occasion but such brilliant food in such a lovely setting, it's worth every penny.
I have dined at the Castleman almost 200 times . The food is always excellent, the staff are always friendly and helpful. My wife and I have travelled the world and can honestly say the Castleman is in our top 10 places to eat. Probably number one for it’s friendly staff and unique ambience!
Wonderful weekend stay. Barbara and Richard make a Super friendly team who want to please, responding to adhoc menu mixer requests etc.
Food exceeded expectations, sensible portions, good quality meant we enjoyed all three courses to the full.
The whole set up is quirky, the building showing its age in places, but more than off set by the attentive family style ambience.
Loved it
Had a lovely evening here, staff were friendly and helpful and the food was wonderful. The whole atmosphere felt very much like home. All within an amazing building.
