My third stay at this B&B. Why?|The location is perfect, just off the ferry, hotel with bar and restaurant right across the street, local pub just down the street. Excellent start for walking the three distilleries path.|Rhona the hostess is a Scottish gem. Helpful getting us a taxi when we needed, keeps the rooms clean and tidy and makes excellent breakfast to your choice.|Second time I stayed in the basement "apartment". Suitable for 3 or maybe a family of 4, with a 2 bed bedroom and a wide sofa bed. Ensuite bath/shower and a TV in the large room. After having to cancel travel plans in 2019 I had no doubt about where I wanted to stay when I finally could return to this wonderful island.
We stayed at Caladh Sona for two nights in April 2019. The experience and trip were amazing. Rhona was a very friendly and gracious host and made us feel at home. The house was clean, cozy, and quiet (I don’t believe there was more than 1 other couple also staying while we were there, which was an added benefit). The breakfast in the morning was excellent and cooked by Rhona herself. She was kind enough to adjust the menu based off of personal preferences and requested portion sizes. The views surrounding the house and from the individual bedrooms were stunning, and the house is centrally located in Port Ellen, a short distance from the ferry to the west and three main Islay distilleries to the east (Laphroig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg). We would highly recommend this establishment while staying on Islay, if not solely for the purpose of meeting Rhona herself!
We had a wonderful stay with Rhona. We had the basement unit which gave us own private entrance with wonderful views across the bay. Breakfast was extremely well done. You had your choice of a full Scottish breakfast or smoked fish. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Rhona was very helpful with finding the hours and location of a craft store on the island as well as suggestions for distillery visits. I would definitely recommend staying here.
I’ve just returned from 4 nights on Islay where we stayed in this excellent guest house. Rhona is an excellent host. The accommodation is brilliant (3 of us stayed in the flat downstairs which gave us plenty of space. To say that we were spoiled for choice at breakfast time is an understatement!! I had the full Scottish breakfast on the first morning and admit that I almost struggled to finish it! I especially enjoyed the excellent scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. I also enjoyed the smoked haddock another morning and finished up with the yummy kippers. All of the breakfasts meant that we didn’t need to bother with lunch!! Rhona is very knowledgable about what’s going on in the island and a great source of information with regards eating out. I’m looking forward to going back!!
Rhona is a fantastic host .She was very friendly and helpful. The place is very clean and tidy and comfortable. We stayed three nights . Breakfast was freshly home cooked by Rhona herself. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you for opening your home up and spending time talking with us each morning at breakfast making it personal.
We would gladly recommend staying with Rhona at Caladh Sona. The room we stayed in had a lovely outlook over the bay, was clean and comfortable and with many breakfast options, which were all delicious. Caladh Sona is easy walking distance to the ferry and to the start of the whiskey walk and other services nearby inc bus, small supermarket etc. ||||Thanks again Rhona for accommodating my parents and I on our short stay, we had a great time on Islay and it was great to meet you. I hope we can return one day and keep exploring the island.||||Cheers,||Owen.
A few days ago we searched for a place to stay for 2 nights in Port Ellen very spontanously. So we just rang at Rhona's door the day we arrived and were so lucky to meet her! She welcomed us very warm-hearted and did her best to give us a plaesant stay. The room was nice and the breakfast VERY good.
The house is located at the harbor, viewing the sea, and is next to two restaurants.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at Rhona's very much and are thankful for the great hosting including all the tips and information she gave us about the area. It was a pleasure to meet her.
