The most perfect of the Lakes! There are a couple of small cafes and a couple.of hotels with a reasonable car park.
Come early or come late and you will almost have the place to yourselves. Just avoid the 1000 to 1600 peak times!
Amazing landscape views even from the single track road as you drive through. The walk around the lake took around 3 hours and offers even more picturesque moments.
When we visited it was raining and foggy but was still well worth the visit especially as it was soo quiet. Parking is limited and was about £7 for the day and there was a lovely local pub just on the corner.
You need to get here by at least 10.30am to get car park space. Otherwise you’ll be desperately looking for a spot some way up the hill. There are a couple of places open for coffee and a couple more for pub drinks/food.
The walk around the lake is very doable as it is flat and about 5 miles. The scenery is really beautiful. You can go in the lake too if you’re brave. A lovely spot in the Lake District.
Visiting Buttermere was a breath-taking experience! The serene beauty of the lake surrounded by majestic mountains is simply awe-inspiring. Whether you're hiking, picnicking, or simply enjoying the views, Buttermere offers a slice of paradise. A must-see destination for nature lovers!
Beautiful mossy woodland along the lake side.
Even in the fog and heavy rain it’s absolutely gorgeous. The dogs seem to enjoy a mossy wood, they roll around on the floor and bounce with extra enthusiasm. The waters edge looked very clean and clear.
We parked at the National Trust Car Park Buttermere a short walk away, free for members.
One of my favourite places to visit at any time of year.
The last time I came here was 5 years ago during August, and there had been so much rainfall that flooding of the paths and fields had prevented me from walking around the lake. This time however, the weather was cold but relatively dry. It took us 2hrs to walk all the way around at a leisurely pace.
Buttermere is beautiful whatever the time of year and I highly recommend visiting this gorgeous part of The Lake District.
Amazing lake! Brilliant for a walk if the weather is good( I was lucky)
A stunningly beautiful place. It's off the beaten track, yet such a pleasure to walk completely around (4.5 miles). Not as busy as the 'major' lakes, yet in itself Buttermere is even more of the natural essence of the lake district.
There are cafés in the village to refresh before, during or after your walk, depending on where you start.
There are also trails away from the lake, which are also well worth the exercise.
