This is my local chippy and the food and service is usually brilliant. The staff that served me today were new to me. Although polite and friendly I was a bit non-plussed by how they resolved a pricing issue.
I usually get the all day special but as I perused the menu board I could not immediately see it on the board, the young male behind the cash register asked me what I wanted to order and seeing “medium cod meal” I ordered this plus two battered sausages.
The male asked me “would you like a sauce or a drink” which I politely declined. Apparently these are included in the meal price but I was not aware of this. Surely the correct question would have been “which sauce and drink would you like with that?” This would indicate it was included rather than posing the question as if to ask would I like to order other items.
I left the chippy briefly to nip to the shop next door to get a few grocery items when I returned the male asked to clarify that I did not want a sauce or a drink with my meal. Which I declined again. It was then explained to me that they were included with the meal. I was cheerfully told by the older female dishing up my meal that it would be cheaper to just order a medium cod and chips if I did not want a sauce or drink. She then said “ just so you know for next time”
I was not offered a refund on the meal so that I was just charged for a medium cod and chips which is essentially all that I received and I was told again “at least you will know for next time”. I then said In that case I will have drink which I was given but I still declined the sauce as I’m not a fan of curry sauce or mushy peas. So I have still not had the full benefit of the meal deal. I then asked if I could have a carrier bag but was told this was an extra 60p!!! So I have paid above the odds for my fish supper and a drink, not offered a refund at any time and they still wanted me to pay for a carrier bag. Clearly customer good will is not a thing anymore. It is a shame because the food is really good.
The young lad could not even makes change from £15 for a charge of £13.90 as he had not rung it up on the till correctly so that it calculated the change for him. He got his phone out to do the sum but I was able to tell him it was £1.10.
And to add insult to injury I asked twice for just salt on my fish & chips and when I got it home it was unsalted. All in all not the best experience I have had buying a take away. Disappointing as this is the first time I have had bad service here.
Very lovely fish and chips not greasy .we got a box meal very good value .

Large fish is more like a medium. Battered sausages were so greasy, savaloy was hard. Quality of the food in general has dropped so much since new management. Asked for no salt and vinegar, when we got into the car we could smell vinegar, took them back in and were told we asked for vinegar. Server argued with me and and got the lady before mines order wrong too. Anyone know where the previous management went because I miss their standard of fish and chips. I will NOT be returning
They have separate fryer for Gluten free food.

Very disappointed, poor service. Waited 40 minutes. Got 2 medium cods instead of two large ones, ordered two battered sausages and got plain ones instead. Don’t waist your money there.
One of the best fish and chip shops in Gosport in my opinion - in my top 3. Good service, good choices of food and always hot/very warm plus prices are reasonable in this current climate! Food generally cooked to order so you know it's fresh and not been reheated!
Absolutely fantastic fish and chips tonight.
The fish was freshly cooked and it was so so tasty.we all agreed it was the best the 4 of us had tasted in a long time.
We Will definitely be coming back.
Food looked good, but didn’t test great , I am not surprised. This is the new management. I wish I’ve known. Won’t be coming there no more. The Asian girl in the til deserves five star she tries her best , the others I am not so sure of
