We love coming to these woods for a walk, there’s a real variety of trees and spaces for people to enjoy. The heath is massive with loads of space for picnics (although there are a few signs stating no BBQs), plenty of picnic benches, litter bins and bins for dog mess. A great place to bring kids or have an outdoor party/gathering.
The woods are big enough to enjoy a decent walk and include a really beautiful area of beech trees where the sunset looks stunning. There are also lots of lovely old oak trees that you can have a good climb on and plenty of different paths going around the woods to choose from.
The car park is free but quite small and with a height limit of 1.83m but there are plenty of residential streets nearby that you can park on and walk into the woods from there.
There is also a small outdoor gym area if that’s what you’re looking for!
These woods are a wonderful place to escape from it all and my little ones love to explore and play here. You can choose to follow the signs for the green chain walk that runs through these woods or explore your own routes. There are benches/ seats dotted around which are useful as some routes can be quite steep and you might need a rest! At the top, in the clearing there is bowling green, male and female toilets and picnic tables. Across the road there is a free car park, outdoor gym equipment, and a sports court. It is always clean, well kept and we occasionally see volunteers planting beautiful flowers.
Located on the Bexley/Greenwich borders, but technically in Greenwich, these are truly beautiful woods (although not quite as nice and varied as Lesnes Abbey Woods). The ground is mostly flat and good for dog walking.
My only beefs are the amount of wreaths attached to memorial benches - this actually stops people being able to sit down. Also, there are too many oiks riding mini motorbikes charging about.
The Friends Group (FOBHAW) consists of some nice useful practical members, BUT also a few much older people who are rude, dismissive, and bring literally nothing to the organisation. I left pretty sharpish after being literally barked at by one of these 'people' and their pesky hounds.
Unexpectedly large, fairly dense forest. Quite peaceful, diverse: from wide open columnal cathedral aisles to narrow thick dense 'jungle'.
Been down this woods a couple of times & after work walks, they have a few benches in some nice cosy parts of the woods. Wouldn’t recommend coming here too late at night as you may get roadman from Plumstead lurking about.
Lovely woods, something about it is particularly pretty with lots of clearings, places to sit and relax and eat picnics. Lots of dog walkers and cyclists. There are lots of little fairy houses like the one in the picture. Fun for children. Highly recommended!
Totally relaxing place to walk. No stress from the fake virus and the smell of nature so sweet. Wow I can smell so no fake covid.
Lovely woods and open space in the middle of built up areas. Cricket nets and open space for kids to play, picnic etc
