UPDATE 2024: Bo-Wah Fish bar permanently closed in December last year. Some idiot keeps marking it as reopen. Don’t waste your time going there expecting it to be open.
Bit of a mixed bag here. The chips were very nice - thick cut, crisp but not overcooked and the service was very quick and friendly. The fish however was not so good - the batter was not nice at all, it was very thick, hard to the point of being chewy and tasted and looked dried up. The fish inside was not bad though. Both were fairly greasy.
I was disappointed to see several pieces of cod ready cooked in the warming cabinet when went in so these are not cooked fresh to order. From the state of the batter I would guess they had been sitting there for some time.
Cod, small chips and mushy peas cost £9.20 and the portion sizes were reasonable for the price.
If you are in such a hurry that you don’t want to wait the 5-10 odd minutes it takes to cook fresh fish then maybe you might appreciate the pre-cooking. I would always much rather wait a few minutes and have food I know is fresh.
Stop at the local chippy shop on our way through the little traditional town. The food was cooked as we ordered. The fish was fresh. The chips was a touch too crispy for me. The batter was crispy but large.
The pickled onions were nice.
It was great service on the counter and the serving area was clean.
I would certainly try it again if I was passing through town again.
Ordered cod, chips, saveloy and curry sauce. Where do I start… cod tasted of nothing, the saveloy was like cardboard and the curry sauce tasted nothing like curry sauce! Too salty and zero flavour. Will not be going here again. I think they should visit other chip shops in order to understand what fish and chips should be like. Waste of £13!
That was the worst curry sauce I have ever experienced from a chippy. Why was it red? I'm all up for alternative ways of doing things but it also tasted of nothing? The haddock had so much batter on it I had to scrap it off. It was also soooooo greasy! Chips were actually really nice though, that's what the one star is for. Overall, never going again.
When we attended, these members of staff did not speak English. I tried to explain as clearly as possible, but they just did not understand. The food was okay, but it is just so frustrating that they could not understand simple English.
Sorry ???? your closing down All the best whatever you do Going to miss you all
Always great food, best tasting fish/chicken quarters in the area. To be honest you don't go to a take away for atmosphere. It is what it is.
Very disappointed. Although the staff are lovely the food was so disappointing. The amount of batter on the cod and the plaice was unbelievable. Myself, partner and kids were so hungry but there was nothing to eat apart from batter! Only decent thing we got were the onion rings. We had to go out and get more food after this. Won’t go again.
