A last minute business trip (found out at lunch for that evening) saw me stay here last night and I’m so glad I did. |I checked availability on line and called about 4pm to book. The gentleman I spoke with confirmed it was ok for me to arrive “out of normal hours” (circa 10pm) and that parking was available for my extra long van. ||On arrival I was warmly greeted and shown to my Studio room. The room was spotlessly clean with a comfortable king bed, bathroom with walk in power shower and it’s own kitchen area with fridge, oven, microwave, kettle and associated crockery, cutlery and drinking glasses. There was also a small dining table with 2 chairs, a sofa and tv. Also in the room was a fan, hairdryer and iron and ironing board. ||Whilst I didn’t use the kitchen area and/or the other items had I stayed more than one night or arrived earlier I probably would have. ||Although my room overlooked a fairly busy road a good night sleep followed although I suspect in the summer you might not be able to sleep with the windows open. ||Come morning, although I hadn’t booked the hostess was more than happy to fit me in for breakfast with a small but suitable selection of cereal, toast, juice and hot offerings. (Cooked to order). The breakfast food I ordered was hot and cooked well. Perfect to start the day.||I established that they do evening meals too if residents don’t want to use the kitchen facilities in their room with the menu I saw offering typical “pub grub” offerings (steak, burgers, scampi, fish pie, lasagne etc) at very reasonable prices. They are also licensed so you can have a glass of something chilled with your meal (or without eating ) should you wish. ||Many of my previous reviews question if I would stay here again if on business this way or if I’d stay with my wife on a non business visit and the answer to both would be yes! ||It was a lovely find and I hope that either work or holiday finds me in this area sometime soon so I can stay again. If I do, I’ll endeavour to arrive earlier and stay longer!
We stayed here for three nights end of July/start of August. We needed a dog friendly location close to a family event in Angersleigh. The Blackbird Inn suited out needs very well. We especially enjoyed the breakfast, with plenty of choice and with the best bacon, perfectly cooked! Wish we had been able to sample the evening menu too.. |The owners were kind enough to make us a packed breakfast as we had to leave early on our day of departure and thoughtfully tumble dried a pair of shorts that we had been trying to dry on the room. Busy location on the A38, but fine with windows closed. Lovely private garden for guest use.
Lovely room. It was great to have a kitchenette whilst away from home with a baby, and the room had everything we needed. It was clean and modern. Our only hang up was the road noise, but the double glazed windows did a very good job of muffling the traffic. We had a great stay.
Great find for us as a stop over on the way to Cornwall, lovely owners who can't do enough for you, fabulous rooms our room had a lovely bed with WiFi tv fridge cooker microwave sink tea making facilities with on suite toilet shower room. Food was very good and hot and the full English well I didn't eat until teatime after mine, highly recommend and we will return.|Thank you both so much Andy Jayne Syd & Rocco the dogs
Stayed here for 1 night on our way to Cornwall. Delightful accommodation, comfortable and clean. Breakfast delicious! Would highly recommend. Many thanks ????
We stayed here for family reunion activities in Barnstaple and Taunton. It's a lovely former pub with updated, ensuite rooms. We enjoyed Studio 1 on the ground floor. Traffic is quiet overnight. Parking is free and the cooked breakfast has everything you'd want to order. The owners are lovely friendly people with suggestions for walks in the surrounding area.
Stayed 2 nights so we could go for a few walks with our dog and drink cider from some nearby locations and the Blackbird Inn was perfect for this. Peter & Evie were accommodating & friendly, always making sure we were okay, the garden area was lovely and the food was brilliant too. If we return to the area, we will definitely be going back!
This place was perfectly located on our trip to South Devon. The proprietors were super friendly and made us welcome. Chatting with them was like talking to old friends.
My wife had the full English breakfast which she said was fantastic, while I had cereal and toast as I'm on a health drive.
We were also happy that we could take our little dog with us.
We'd definitely stay there again.
