My Mum booked a meal for my Dads Birthday for 9 of us, we all had the Carvery. Really lovely meal and we all enjoyed it. My Mum and sister are vegetarian and this was made clear when Mum booked, they really enjoyed their vegie roast. Desserts were also very nice. We will be back for sure.
Great carvery on a Sunday. Probably best to book ahead but they accommodated us 6 with no booking.
Friendly staff.
Clean restrooms - loved the decor!
Thought I should let other people know about this little gem of a pub. My mother-in-law lives in an adjoining village and every time my wife and I go down to see her we always end up for a meal at The Black Dog. We have been for several meals in the evening and for the best Sunday lunch we have ever had. The pub has plenty of character, the staff are really friendly, the proprietor's are great, one of them is 'the chef', I think the beer is first rate, but it's the food that we both particularly enjoy. Sunday lunch is amazing, there is always a choice of joint, beautifully cooked and served with lots of fresh vegetables. There is also pudding and everything is served with a smile. It is great value for money. I/We would definitely recommend to others.
highly recommend, food was lovely and the owners are very welcoming. Love the decor. we had a lovely evening and look forward
to trying the carvery! thank you
Fabulous Sunday Carvery! All gluten free and totally delicious. Dog friendly. Dave, our host, thank you! Every aspect was truely a pleasure.
Pleasant country pub offering really good menu at a reasonable price with wide range of choice for vegetarians and vegans. I can recommend the Sunday lunch carvery for good range of roast meats and tasty selection of vegetables. Food is served in the bar or in the restaurant and tables are well laid with clean linen etc.
What a brilliant landlord they have against all the odds worked on courageously supplying a varied menu. They never lost Billy's number do you remember, a time like this. Anyway during the summer they turned to themselves literally inside out to help those needing food.
Attractive 18th century village inn. I had a very well decorated room, with unusually smart ensuite. Friendly welcome. Nice village pub atmosphere downstairs ....I felt Mr Pickwick and his party could have turned up in an inn like this. I have enjoyed a surprisingly well presented and interesting evening meal. Location is in the heart of Devon countryside reached by deep sided "roller coaster" Devon lanes, opening onto impressive views of the Devon valleys you would never see from a motorway.
