Charming little cafe with an internal and external space. We sat outside on Easter Sunday as it was a beautiful day and the birds were singing. It was jam packed when we arrived but thankfully it emptied within about 5 minutes. They were also sold out of scones and bacon sandwiches. They clearly had been packed and wiped out!
I had the pancakes and wee bro had the loaded sandwich.
The pancakes were lovely yet unexpectedly cold (I had assumed they would be warm). Lovely cup of coffee and lovely friendly young staff. Great place to sit and listen to the birds.
There was a bold little robin he was scared to come really close for some scraps.
Popped into this lovely cozy cafe to warm up with hot drinks and shelter from the rain. Delighted that our wee hound was welcome inside too. Entered up the steps at the front and left by the back door into the enchanting wee garden and the bottom of the Hagg's Stepps. Loved the quirky old Singer sewing table in the garden. Would be lovely to sit out on a sunny day. Staff very friendly.
I don’t usually leave bad reviews… I’d rather not say anything than say something negative, however, the experience I had in this cafe was so abnormally negative I feel a divine calling to warn others away from this place.
The manager? Supervisor? (An older lady with gray hair and glasses) was so overtly hostile and rude I left the cafe baffled. She stood behind the counter showing unrestrained aggression to all in the vicinity, myself, all other customers, and the poor staff working with her who definitely didn’t deserve to be spoken too in such a manner whilst working so hard.
I shall not be returning here. I would advise others not to visit.
We went there at the weekend and the place was busy, what is great for a local cafe. The food was good, homemade, we ordered mac and cheese and stovies. Both dishes were tasty but just slightly warm, not hot, and mac & cheese was without garlic bread, and there was no cheese on the top of the mac. We've been served by nice young girls, but one of them was so busy that half of a dish landed from plate onto table. Lovely, atmospheric place, cakes look delicious. Only the music from the radio was very loud and tiring, just what young people listening ????
Lovely sunny day and claims to be dog friendly, yet when we sat in the garden (on cheap rickety furniture that wasn't that comfy) was told they weren't serving outside today as they were short staffed! Understand if short staffed may have to reduce menu or tables but deciding to stop serving outside on a sunny day where dog owners will want to sit cuts a huge part of your market! Went to the other cafe in Culross, which was very accommodating and had comfier outside furniture.
Very busy place but a relaxed atmosphere and the service wasn't overly slow. Mac 'cheese was very bland but bacon butty was well filled and tasty. Both young girls serving were pleasant but both had long hair hanging down over the food and one had the cuffs of her jumper halfway over her hands. Very unhygienic. They would have failed a food hygiene inspection.
Beautiful cafe however yet again the service was poor. We got told to sit at a different table even tho it wasn't busy. Woman brought us 2 exact same looking coffees and never said which one was which even tho we've ordered a latte and flat white.... clearly unimpressed with us ordering 'only' coffees and not food which seems way too pricey for what you get.
Cute little Cafe, we stopped on our tour. I got a mocha, friends got tea. Tea was very hot and they seemed to enjoy it. The only complaint was the spice cake was a wee bit dry but the sponge cake LOOKED moist and delicious from sneaking peaks at others plates ????. Pet friendly, which I enjoyed since I don't have a pet myself. I asked and was allowed to pet one of the dogs ???? overall good experience!
