Really lovely campsite wardens were great and so we're the facilties, always spotlessly clean. Good showers and toilets, washing machine and drying facilities. The pitches were well spaced and level.
Very funny and lovely host. We received quick and important informations from him. We got everything what we needed for a nice tent place and have seen a nice sun down at the sea. Everything was just fine. Thanks
Wonderful , friendly welcome , and a superb location.
Services extended to include chemical waste disposal.
Site would benefit from hard standing pitches and more electric points., as grassy pitches are tricky to drive away from if extended rain.
Beware sat nav taking you way past the site if using postcode..watch out for community centre.Posting precise coordinates on website would be helpful esp if arriving late.
I was so impressed with this campsite! It looks fairly basic on arrival but it has everything you need and lovely friendly staff. Pitches were well spaced, due to covid shower/toilet blocks were limited to one person/bubble which actually made it a lot nicer to do your business in private, free washer and dryer, place to wash up, local information, kettle and washing line. Short walk down to Birsay beach with lots of wildlife around. Fab campsite, would totally recommend.
Lovely spacious campsite staff are friendly and knowledge about local area. Camping site has electricity stations. Campsite has showers and toilets plus they also have laundry facilities. It has facilities to wash your pots plus it has a kettle and microwave for everyone to use. It has facilities to charge phones and laptops. I would definitely recommend this site. Cannot complain.
I have been a regular visitor to the Birsay Campsite since it opened spending most of my summer there. As is always the case, Larraine and Alan are perfect wardens providing assistance and to help, valuable friendship and support.
This year however, I was extremely disappointed to find that the toilets had been made unisex for some inexplcable reason, the advantages beyond my comprehension
Everybody staying on the site over the 10 weeks I was there were very uncomfortable with the shared facilities. The potential for embarrassment and worse was seen by all as detrimental to the facilities. It was very noticible that the Site was very much quieter than previous years with one night stays epwere rarely extended. This is very unusual for Birsay and the single most common reason was a dislike of the toilet facilities.
That said the addition if the toilet waste disposal is a welcome and overdue addition.
It should also be noted that one toilet cubicle was unusable for a lengthy period due to a broken door lock and had to be temporarily repaired by the warden to make it available and the shower hoses were in very poor condition.
As always the toilets and showers were always immaculate, but I do find it quite ironic to witness extensive works to erect a cycle shed fir e bikes being constructed where simple quick and necessary repairs needed for everyday use could not be undertaken.
I am also concerned that the pricing for Birsay is the same as Stromness (now quite expensive), but Birsay has none of the facilities, of a TV Room, lounge area both essential particularly during this very inclement weather this summer, despite such facilities being on site. The pricing is certainly not reflective of facilities offered. I would strongly suggest the pricing structure requires urgent review.
Birsay has been an important part of my life in recent years and I an disappointed to say that this visit will ge my last.
The pricing and facilities and maintainance of the site are not compatible with continued support and I will be making alternative arrangements for next summer.
You should also note that I was not invited to offer this review after my stay forcing me to submit it in this manner.

Lovely spot and great staff, however the toilet arrangements are far too restrictive and more people could use them safely at the same time. It's also unacceptable that a campsite charging normal rates has no facilities for camper vans and motor homes to empty their toilets, having to travel to Stromness is not the answer . Local authorities have to accept that motorhomes are here to stay and the one facility they all require is service points , Europe solved this decades ago with their network of Aires, please Scotland follow suit.
Really special atmosphere for this back to basics campsite. Very friendly wardens, beautiful views and excellent location for the Brough of Birsay. Didn't have a chemical disposal point though, but other facilities very good. Piping hot water in the showers, toilets very clean. Peaceful and relaxing spot, highly recommend.
