I replaced every moving suspension part on my Landrover Discovery 3 as it was getting on a bit. I used new adjustment bolts that came with the suspension arms.
I then bought brand new tyres and had my alloys refurbished at my usual place.
I do all my own work on my cars but wheel alignment is something I can't do so I booked it in with Autoland. I fitted my newly refurbished wheels and tyres and drove it just 2 miles to leave it with them for wheel alignment.
They called me the next day to say it was done.
The printout they supplied showed several adjustments were in the red zone. I'm no expert so uploaded a copy on an LR owners group online. I was met with literally dozens if replies saying take it back or get a refund.
I called Autoland with this news but they insisted they followed their computer system and the alignment was correct. I said I'd like a 2nd opinion and wanted a refund if someone else could do it properly. They agreed in a refund if I got a report from the 2nd garage.
I took it to another garage and before they even started I noticed a chip in my newly painted wheels. There were chips on 2 different wheels in exactly the same place on both. This coincided with careless removal of the wheel alignment gauges.
The 2nd garage carried out the wheel alignment but found one of the adjustment bolts had been damaged, meaning adjustment wasn't possible. Likely cause was trying to adjust camber without loosening the nut. This bolt was brand new just a few days before.
I replaced the bolt myself and then took it back to the 2nd garage where I incurred more costs to do the alignment. I also found damage to a 3rd wheel. Exactly the same as the others.
I complained to Autoland by phone and in person and after 2 weeks I got a reply saying that they would refund the wheel alignment they did but nothing more. They asked for photographs of my wheels when I dropped it off as proof. I mean who takes photos of their wheels around the entire circumference I case the garage chips them with alignment gauges?
I've rejected their offer of a refund and will be pursuing a civil claim.
I'm out of pocket £168 for their substandard wheel alignment, £189 for 3 alloys to be redone, £180 for the 2nd visit to the 2nd garage which I wouldn't have had to incur if the bolt hadn't been damaged. Luckily I had my old bolts and do all my own work so I'm not out of pocket there but otherwise I'd have to buy a new bolt and have it fitted for the suspension to be adjusted properly. Not to mention the inconvenience of having to take my wheels off and somehow transport them to be redone and be without my car for 5 days.
I am AT LEAST £537 out of pocket thanks to this garage breaking a suspension bolt, carrying out poor wheel alignment and chipping the paint on my alloys that had been on the car for one day.
Disgusting service. Wholly disappointed.
Always take my cars here, so difficult to find a garage you can trust, but Autoland have always been nothing but honest value for money and a pleasure to deal with highly recommended
Took my VW in for an oil change and got Gavin to check air con as it was not blowing cold air. Couple hours later all sorted and good as new. Thanks for.great service and reasonable price.
Our usual garage for all MOT and service and repairs, very knowledgeable prompt service. No nasty surprises added on your bill, everything discussed before work starts. Found many years ago and go nowhere else.
I took my Discovery here 3 years ago to have a new clutch and an Ashcroft reconditioned gearbox fitted. It came back with damaged interior trim, snagged wiring harness, broken towball cover, strange noises from the newly built gearbox, no reverse lights and an incorrectly adjusted gearstick bias plate so that 3rd gear was very hard to find. It took 2 return visits to get things sorted out, and another visit to Ashcroft to get the reverse lights working again. I sold the car soon afterwards as it was never the same again.
I hope they have improved since then!
The people here are so nice, really good job and make sure they job is done to the best of their standards, they look after the cars and ensure they are safe for road use. Cant go wrong with Autoland, they do most vehicles especially land rovers.
Problem fixed quickly at a reasonable cost, and also used them for servicing and MOTs. I've found them to be reliable and trustworthy and a good price.
