We stopped in for lunch on our way to islay and have to say very pleased we did. The menu is a great mix of lunchtime snacks inc baguettes, fish and chips and burgers (all under £6) and hearty seafood specials at very reasonable prices, we both started with local mussels which were awesome and for main a very tasty dish of pan fried scallops and bacon, the best I've ever tasted! unfortunately the Langoustines hadn't arrived yet but we were told they are the owners own so we will definitely be back to try them.
Dropped in here for a couple of sessions whilst we were in the area. Great wee bar. Made very welcome by staff and regulars alike. Proper Scottish hospitality. Nothing pretentious, just a homely feel. Don't pass it by without calling in.||We didn't stay here but certainly enjoyed the bar.
Yesterday 31st July a party of four of us called in to this establishment for what we thought would be a quick bite to eat after coming of the Islay ferry after attending a funeral.||||In fairness to the Hotel it looked pleasant and the Public Bar was very busy which we took to be a good sign.||||I had to go to the bar and ask for some menus and was told that someone would be through to take our order.......this took some time. We placed an order for drinks and eventually when they were brought to us we placed an order for our food. This was nothing elaborate - 2 soups and a garlic mushroom for a starter then macaroni cheese, scampi and chips, steak and ale pie and fish and chips.||||For our starter to be served we had to wait a hour and a half then a further forty minutes after chasing this up for our mains.||||When we came to pay and expressed our anger at the service the price of the drinks was taken off the bill along with an apology and was told the chef was alone in the kitchen.||||There was only three tables being plus our own so this was unsatisfactory.||||If they were unable to cope the menu should have been suspended.||||One of our party is Diabetic and had taken their Insulin and with this wait it could have had serious medical implication.||||I am a regular reviewer and this is the first time I have been required to do a negative review.
Our experience 2 nights stay 24th 25th May||The room was circa 1969, plastic cover on mattress ,flowery bedding ,sliding door to shower room,||Cracked toilet , no proper bedside lamps, tv not working ( it was changed) . The hall and stair carpet was red nylon which was black in places with grime.||||The Bar, we entered the bar to be welcomed by a group of regulars who then made sarcastic comments about my question about the type of beer being offered. We had obviously interrupted||Their private in house chat and space. We stayed for 8 minutes.||||The worst bit our bedroom was next to the function suite, we were told there would be a party, after we had booked , we said this was not a problem as we were at a wedding returning at 12 am||We were assured this would finish at 12, allowing for getting the guests out and tidying up 12.30 would have been acceptable. The band was still playing at 1am the guests were still shouting and cursing outside our window at 2am. Then the staff started to clean up setting off party poppers and making as much noise as the departed guests.||We made it very clear to the staff we were extremely unhappy, no recompense was offered.||DO NOT VISIT THIS HOTEL ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE A PARTY BOOKED !!
I stopped here for one night in March 2014, when I arrived I was told that breakfast was going to be cooked instead of continental...bonus! The room was warm and welcoming with the bed turned down and the electric blanket on! The bar is small but busy on a Friday night, overall a great nights stay.
Really enjoyed this wee old hotel, crinan canal back view loch fyne front view, food was great, was treated to the biggest langoustines we have even seen or ate lovely, told they were caught by the owner in his own boat, we never met him to confirm,,but staff were excellent and room was satisfactory, wee bar was amusing with locals and visitors a like we're made to feel really welcome, local ale was delicious, only down side was we were there when function was on,we're told this on booking, and to be fair it all stopped at 1pm, it was a party for a local lad so was busy, to cap off old hotel with a lot of charm, staff friendly and helpful and local which is good if you need answers to the area. And best fresh shellfish and fish you can eat, hope they keep it going!,,,,,
We had an awesome short 2 nighters but very sweet stay. The people were fab and the food was good. The rooms clean and warn. The only thing I didn't like was the plastic table cloths on the breakfast tables.
I was visiting friends and needed a place for the night, the Argyll Arms was perfect. Very reasonable rate and a good functional single room, fully en-suite, shower, tv, kettle, £25. Breakfast was offered but I chose to have it elsewhere.
