This was by far the worst experience of my life. If I could rate it 0 stars, I would.
The first time I ever went here, I asked for knotless jumbo braids with leave out curls. I had just done the big chop and wanted braids to disguise the actual length. They ended up giving me mid sized braids with no leave out because I didn’t bring my own hair but I figured “mission accomplished anyway, you can’t see my hair is short anymore” and I settled. It was my first time ever at a professional braiding shop so I just took the experience for what it was and tried not to be too particular or critical when scoping everything out. My braids felt extremely tight but I grew up hearing “pain is beauty” and didn’t feel right speaking up about the amount of pain. The amount of tension bumps I ended up getting within a a few days was absolutely insane and the pain continued on for days. For almost a full week it literally hurt me to think. I have not braided my hair since then.
On the second occasion, I decided to go back for a quick “ponytail” hair style. It was my birthday and I decided to go out last minute (this was the closest place in mind at the time) I knew they had provided this service because upon my first visit I saw the owner rendering this service. Upon arrival, she promptly had me sit down in her chair and stopped braiding the woman’s hair she was working on. I felt bad for the woman but I was in a rush and I figured a ponytail should be quick for someone who owns a professional hair shop. WRONG. She has a strong attitude upon me seating and began tugging at my hair tie aggressively before telling me to take my hair tie out myself. Embarrassed, I blamed myself for not taking it out sooner, and did as she asked. After complying, she continued brushing my freshly blow dried hair roughly and aggressively to the point where I could literally hear my hair snapping and breaking off as she ran through small knots. She then grabbed a glop of shine, and started rubbing it in my hair. She then asked me how I wanted the ponytail, I showed her a picture. Side swoop, high ponytail. She said ok, and carried on. She started grabbing a NEEDLE & THREAD and sewing my WRAP AROUND ponytail in… never have I ever had to thread my ponytail in but I figured she wanted to make sure it was extra secure? I don’t know! But.. This…. Is what I left with. The OWNER herself did my hair like this…. My birthday was over a month ago now and I’m still not sure whether I’m more upset about the fact that this is what the owner allowed me to walk out her shop like this for my BIRTHDAY or the fact that I was still expected to pay after expressing clear dislike for the hairstyle. I literally was on the verge of tears when I looked in the mirror and saw this was my end result. Absolutely horrible. I will never go back here. Not ever. Beauty shops are to make you feel beautiful not cancel your birthday plans because you look too crazy to go out.
Wish I could leave 0 stars. Worst customer experience ever. Bad energy. Demeaning.
I don’t know why they’re in business when they’re just terrible to other human beings.
Went there and no proper welcome. Being looked at weirdly.
They were just looking at my hair disgusted saying like I can’t do this style. Your hair won’t be fit for the cornrows. While other stylists will mention what works.
I am disgusted and will never come back.
I hope no human has to deal with them
I called her twice because she hung up on me the 1st time while I was trying to book an appt. I explained the style I wanted & asked how much & she said ok see u tomorrow & hung up. If I’m gonna pay u hundreds of dollars for a style , u could stay on the phone for 3 mins to listen to the style I want & give me a price. I’m not gonna keep calling u back when you’re purposely hanging up on me. If u can’t be bothered to do admin then hire someone to do it , have a booking site or at least post a price list. Horrible customer service.
Prices are always changing according to the day. Not to mention they make you bring your own hair but do not compensate you for it, or subtract it from your total. They’re rude, no one greets you when you walk in and if you have an appointment ? Forget it, they’ll still take someone else knowing that you are coming and make you wait an hour plus. Work could be better, I wish they were as passionate with their work as they are with taking peoples money.
The owner is not interested in satisfying the customer. She gives different prices for the same style depending on how she feels that day. When your braids are falling out on the street less then two weeks after they are done she tries to blame the customer and does not think she should compensate you in any way. Very bad business practices.
I have been going to Aoua's for years, and I always love how my hair turns out!
She needs to examine her biz style, communicating and service and cleanliness and disorder
in consistency in her pricing. Plus she never listens to her clients. ITS SASs. Wait someone will come there, and then they will cry gentrification. Wake cup owner.Handl
your biz like a leader. Super tight braids giving people massive hair fallout and absolutely no hair care informatio. Super Sad.
Best place to get hair done and extremely friendly staff.
