Pros: Posole was great! Tender meat and the broth was excellent. Customer service was great as well!
Cons: the fry bread..it was dense and the oily. I like the flavor of fry bread/sopapillas with just salt but all I could taste was old oil so I smothered it in honey and powdered sugar and ate some of it. I grew up eating flat sopapillas and it looked the part but it was not soft or fluffy or had the right flavor.
Overall, 6 dollars is by far the most iv ever paid for fry bread and it should have been better.
I’m on the fence here and I have to say a bit unsure how to rate Angelina’s. I’ve heard quite a bit about this location for a while and so my friend and I decided to stop by today for some dry bread and maybe some food items. I’ve had plenty of Navajo fry bread etc, but never fry bread from a Mexican restaurant. First impression pulling into the parking lot was a little dismal to be honest. The location site in a very old shopping center and nothing about it really stands out to let you know it’s there. The area is pretty meh as well. Once inside we were greeted right away with smiles and offered some menus to sit down so we didn’t have to stand and look at the menu above counter. The place is pretty small, but with outdoor seating also available it felt a bit larger for groups and such. The place was clean, but not your typical Mexican restaurant. They had a counter with candy for purchase and decor pretty basic. The menu is not large, but offers some good things. I knew I was ordering the plain fry bread that comes with powdered sugar, honey and cinnamon on the side so you can add as little or as much as you want. I also added a tostada since I’d already eaten quite a large breakfast earlier in the day. My friend ordered the fry bread open face supreme and a chew’s crisp as well as another plain fry bread. After ordering I was given chips and salsa. This is where they really lost some points for me personally. It was bowl of over fried chips (too thick) and salsa in bottles. There was no plate to eat off of or anything to pour the salsa on besides trying to pour it directly on to a chip and hope it doesn’t spill all over the table. While I liked the green salsa I wasn’t a fan of the cucumber one. The red was ok as well, but I prefer green. My other items came out soon after and looked great. The tostada especially. I ordered one with beans and topping only no meat this time. It was crispy, flavor pretty good and great amount of cheese and other toppings. After adding the green salsa it was great. My plain fry bread was flaky and easy to pull apart. The sugar shaker was quite generous so be careful if you like it light. Once I added honey and such I took my first very sticky bite. I was using my hands which I some with cringe at, but hey I prefer to eat them that way. If you don’t like to get messy fry with a fork and knife. The flavor was good, but I found that I definitely prefer more Navajo style fry bread options. My friend said she wasn’t very impressed with her food and probably wouldn’t come back. Her son ate a few pieces of his cheese crisp, but it was quite large. I’m on the fence honestly if I’d come again to try more. It was bad, but I’ve definitely had better and don’t think I’d come out of my way to stop again.
Me and my buddy tried this place today for lunch and it was great!! The open faced fry bread with the works really hit the spot. The place was very clean and staff was courteous and friendly. They serve chips and 3 kind of salsa's, you have to try the cucumber salsa-bomb!! We had never been to this place and we're very glad we tried it, also the sopapilla's were scrumptious!! We will refer and be back to this great spot.
Let's talk about the frybread. It was tasty and delicious. The chile meat was almost as close to my mom's as I've ever had. I enjoyed it. As for the pozole... it was okay. Why just okay? There was too much oregano in mine. I was looking at the other pictures and videos of the menudo and pozole, and the other ones did not have as much oregano as mine had. The meat and hominy were cooked perfectly, but it was the overpowering taste of the oregano that got to me. I can't take away a star for something not meeting my taste buds' requirements. I can only tell you what I think of the restaurant. The staff was prompt and friendly, and it was very clean as well.
The restaurant itself isn’t that big inside, but there is a decent amount of sitting space. My mom and I ordered an open face supreme fry bread which we were able to split in half and still be full. (We got the chicken with the red and green sauce) and it was soooo good!! The fry bread was fresh and soft! I wasn’t too crazy over the green sauce but the red was great. They also give you chips and a few salsas to try so that’s a plus and they have a ton of old fashion candies you can buy which is cool! And the staff were all very courteous!
Honestly one of my favorite places to eat. Love it there, the dude at the register was super dope.
This is an aerial view of my burrito. Look how happy I was ????????
This is one of those hole in the wall places that makes great food. I had the open face Supreme fry bread with the carne asada meat. I've been there a couple times and the food has been wonderful both times.
I ordered the enchilada style burrito and chise pork. They gave me chicken. Ordered my lady nachos, and that doesn't look appealing and the taste was awful. Definitely would not recommend this place to anyone.
